Thomas Welsby
Thomas (Tom) Welsby (29 November 1858 – 3 February 1941) was an Australian businessman, author, politician, and sportsman based in Queensland. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1911 to 1915. Early life Born in Ipswich, Queensland in 1858, Welsby was the fourth of ten children of William Welsby and Hannah Welsby (née Billsbrough.) His parents migrated from Cornwall, England to Moreton Bay three years earlier in 1855. He was educated at Mr John Scott's school and Ipswich Boys' Grammar School. In his senior year he won prizes in history, arithmetic and Latin. As a child, Welsby aspired to study medicine at Sydney University; however this became impossible following the death of his father in 1874. The loss of his father caused the Welsby family to sell their substantial house in Ipswich and move to Brisbane. Chris Welsby
Chris Welsby (born in 1948) is a British/Canadian experimental filmmaker, digital media and installation artist. In the 1970s he was a member of the London Film-Makers' Co-op (now LUX film distributors), and co-founder of the Digital Media Studio (now Slade Centre for Electronic Media in Fine Art) at the Slade School of Fine Arts, UCL, London. He is considered one of the pioneers of expanded cinema and moving image installation and was one of the first artists to exhibit film installations at the Tate and Hayward galleries London. His expanded cinema works and installations have since continued to break new conceptual ground and attract critical attention. A. L. Welsby is a coastal locality on Bribie Island in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Welsby had a population of 5 people. Geography Welsby is the central part of Bribie Island. William Newland Welsby
William Newland Welsby (bapt. 3 January 1802England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 – 1 July 1864) was a legal writer who was born in Acton, Cheshire about 1802, was the only son of William Welsby of the Middle Temple, gentleman. He was admitted as a pensioner at St. John's College, Cambridge, on 28 October 1818, and graduated B.A. in 1823 and M.A. in 1827. On 22 April 1823 he was admitted as student at the Middle Temple, and was called to the bar on 10 November 1826. He went the North Wales and Chester circuit, and in 1841 was appointed recorder of that city. For many years he reported in the court of exchequer, and he was junior counsel to the treasury. He enjoyed the reputation of being an accomplished scholar and lawyer, but his exertions overtaxed his strength, and on 1 July 1864 he died at 19 Holland Villas Road, Kensington, aged 61. Arthur Welsby
Arthur Welsby (17 November 1902 – 24 April 1980) was an English footballer who played as an outside forward. He played for Wigan Borough from 1923 to 1931, and holds the record for most league appearances for the club. Due to the club's financial crisis, he left the club in 1931 and moved to Sunderland, where he made three appearances, scoring one goal. John Welsby
John Kay Welsby, CBE (26 May 1938 – 4 October 2021) was Chief Executive of the British Railways Board from 1990 until 1998; and its Chairman from 1995 to 1999. Welsby was educated at Heywood Grammar School, the University of Exeter and the University of London. He was in the Government Economic Service from 1966 to 1981 when he joined the British Railways Board.
