Wellsville (Erie Railroad Station)
Wellsville Erie Depot is a historic train station located at Wellsville in Allegany County, New York. It was constructed in 1911, for the Erie Railroad. It is a one-story, by structure displaying elements of the Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival styles popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. It is located across the street from the Wellsville Post Office. Wellsville (village), New York
Wellsville is a village in Allegany County, New York, United States. Located in south-central wooded and rural Allegany County, it is the largest population and business center in a radius. The population was 4,679 at the 2010 census. The village's name is not, as some suppose, derived from the oil wells that became an important economic part of the area, but rather for Gardiner Wells, a local businessman. The village of Wellsville is circumscribed by the town of Wellsville, adding another approximately 3,000 people to the population (approx. 7,000 combined village and town). Alfred State College maintains a branch by the south end of the village. Wellsville Airport, Tarantine Field, located to the west of the village, provides general aviation and charter services. Lake Cities (train)
The ''Lake Cities'' was a passenger train operated by the Erie Railroad and successor Erie Lackawanna Railway between Chicago and New Jersey termini — first, Jersey City and later Hoboken. The ''Lake Cities'' began in 1939 as the ''Midlander'', a Jersey City-Chicago service with sections to Cleveland, Ohio, and Buffalo, New York. From its eastern terminus, the Erie's Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City, the route ran through Port Jervis to Binghamton over the traditional Erie main line through Sullivan and Orange County in New York's Southern Tier and on to Chicago. Unlike other New York-Chicago trains, it bypassed Buffalo to the south, running through Jamestown, Youngstown, Akron and Marion.
