Wellborn, Texas
Wellborn is an unincorporated community in Brazos County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 100 in 2000. It is part of the Bryan– College Station Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Wellborn is located along FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) on the Southern Pacific Railroad, approximately four miles south of College Station and eight miles northwest of Millican in southern Brazos County. History The community came into existence in 1867 as a construction camp on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and was a part of the northeastern corner of a land grant given to A.M. McMahon. The first store, cotton gin, and lumberyard were established by John and Thomas Royder of the Rock Prairie community. Reveille (dog)
Reveille is the official mascot of Texas A&M University. Students adopted the first Reveille, a mixed-breed dog, in 1931. The cadets raised $100 during World War II to make Reveille a general, as part of a fundraiser for the K-9 Corps. Reveille is the highest-ranking member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Eight years after the first Reveille died, a graduate of the university donated a Shetland Sheepdog to be the second official Aggie mascot, Reveille II. The third Reveille was the first to be a purebred Rough Collie; all subsequent mascots have belonged to this breed. Reveille IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII died in 1989, 1999, 2003, 2013, and 2018, respectively. Reveille IX served from May 9, 2015 until her retirement on April 30, 2021. Houston And Texas Central Railroad
The Houston and Texas Central Railway (H&TC), was an 872-mile (1403-km) railway system chartered in Texas in 1848, with construction beginning in 1856. The line eventually stretched from Houston northward to Dallas and Denison, Texas. with branches to Austin and Waco. Millican, Texas
Millican is an unincorporated area and former municipality in Brazos County, Texas, United States. The population was 240 at the 2010 census, up from 108 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bryan–College Station metropolitan area. Millican is named after Robert Millican, the first white settler of the region that would come to be known as Brazos County. History The community was formerly an incorporated municipality. A letter sent to Greg Abbott, then the Texas Attorney General, from the Brazos County Attorney, Jim Kuboviak, stated that an either an election of 1866 or a "special act" law passed by the Texas Legislature had incorporated Millican as a municipality, and that the community had one person serving as mayor. The Southern Pacific (or Espee from the railroad initials- SP) was an American Class I railroad network that existed from 1865 to 1996 and operated largely in the Western United States. The system was operated by various companies under the names Southern Pacific Railroad, Southern Pacific Company and Southern Pacific Transportation Company.
