Welcome (Idles EP)
''Welcome'' is the first extended play by British rock band Idles. The extended play was released originally as a demo on 31 December 2011 before being released for the public on 4 August 2012 through independent label, Fear Of Fiction. The extended play has been described as drastically different from their current work, as the sound of this EP has been compared to having a more cleaner, post-punk sound more akin to the likes of Interpol, Editors, and Radio 4. Background At the time of recording this album, the band was just a music duo, composed of singer Joe Talbot and bassist Adam Devonshire, who met while at College in Exeter, eventually deciding to start a band. Idles have their roots in the Bat-Cave Night Club in Bristol. According to Talbot, "It took us a long time to get productive because we didn’t know what the fuck we were doing at all, we were fucking terrible for a long time." Exeter
Exeter () is a city in Devon, South West England. It is situated on the River Exe, approximately northeast of Plymouth and southwest of Bristol. ''Drowned in Sound'', sometimes abbreviated to ''DiS'', is a UK-based music webzine financed by artist management company Silentway. Founded by editor Sean Adams, the site features reviews, news, interviews, and discussion forums. History ''DiS'' began as an email fanzine in 1998 called ''The Last Resort'' but was relaunched by founder and editor Sean Adams as ''Drowned in Sound'' in 2000. The freelance writing team is currently spread across four continents – North America, Asia, Europe and Australasia. Joe Talbot (musician)
Joseph Talbot (born 23 August 1984) is a Welsh singer and songwriter. He has been the vocalist for British rock band Idles since their inception in 2009. Early life Talbot was born in Newport on 23 August 1984. He moved to England as a child, where he grew up in Exeter. Post-punk revival (also known as garage rock revival,J. Stuessy and S. D. Radio 4 (band)
Radio 4 were an American punk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 1999, they claimed their music is "made in New York, is about New York, and sounds like New York". History Early years The band was formed in 1999 as a trio comprising Anthony Roman (vocals/bass), Tommy Williams (guitar/vocals) and Greg Collins (drums). The three had been friends growing up in Long Island, where they had been involved in the hardcore scene, appearing in bands such as Garden Variety (Roman) and Sleepasaurus. They initially formed the band under the influence of late 1970s/early 1980s punk and post-punk, recording a three-track EP which was released on New Jersey's Gern Blandsten label. Editors are an English rock band, formed in 2002 in Birmingham. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band currently consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesiser, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (lead guitar), Elliott Williams (keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals), and Benjamin John Power (composer and producer). Editors have so far released two platinum studio albums, and six in total, with several million combined sales. Their debut album '' The Back Room'' was released in 2005.
