Wehr is a town in the Waldshut district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated 9 km north of Bad Säckingen, and 18 km east of Lörrach. Wehr is the home of two very old and large families: the Trefzgers and the Nagelins. It is also home to the Weck Jar company. Selfkant
Selfkant (; nl, Selfkant or ''Zelfkant'' ; Limburgish: ) is a municipality in the Heinsberg district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the most westerly municipality in Germany. Geography Isenbruch in Selfkant is the most westerly point in Germany since 1919; before that, the position was held by Gravelotte, in Alsace-Lorraine. Selfkant's border with the Netherlands is long, but the border with the rest of Germany is only long. History The most important domain in Selfkant in the Middle Ages was the castle and village of Millen, the residence of the lords of Millen, which became part of the domain Heinsberg in 1282. Hans Bodo Gerhardt Wehr (; 5 July 1909, Leipzig24 May 1981, Münster) was a German Arabist. A professor at the University of Münster from 1957–1974, he published the ''Arabisches Wörterbuch'' (1952), which was later published in an English edition as '' A Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic'', edited by J Milton Cowan. For the dictionary Wehr created a transliteration scheme to represent the Arabic alphabet. The latest edition of the dictionary was published in 1995 and is Arabic–German only. Wehr joined the Nazi Party in 1940, and wrote an essay arguing that the German government should ally with "the Arabs" against England and France. Julian Wehr (1898–1970) was known as the "American Master of Animated Books". Around 9 million copies of Wehr's books were sold in the United States and Great Britain, and were translated and sold in France, Germany, and Spain during the 1940s and 1950s. Animated and Pop-Up Books Wehr invented and patented the animated children's book that contained moveable paper parts using tabs, commonly read by children in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. C. Frederick "Todd" Wehr (April 14, 1889 -September 28, 1965) was an industrialist and philanthropist. He was co-founder of the Wehr Steel Company and founder of the Todd Wehr Foundation, Inc. Biography Wehr was a graduate of West Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and of Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York. He and his brothers comprised the executive team of the Wehr Steel Company, which was founded in 1910 by his father, Henry Wehr. The company manufactured steel alloy castings for machine parts, magnetic separators, and brakes. During World War II, it received numerous "E" awards from the government for excellence in steel production. In 1958, when the company was re-organized as a division of the Wehr Corporation, Wehr became the chairman of the board, a position he held until his retirement in 1963. Thomas Alvin Wehr is an American psychiatrist, research scientist, and author. He is a scientist emeritus and former chief of the Clinical Psychobiology branch of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Education Wehr received his degree in medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1969. He subsequently completed his psychiatric residency at Yale School of Medicine and an internship at Michael Reese Hospital. Research In a 1990s study on photoperiodicity in humans, Wehr placed a group of volunteers in an environment in which it was dark for 14 hours each day for a month.
