Weekend Today (Australian TV Program)
''Weekend Today'' is an Australian breakfast television program, currently hosted by Richard Wilkins and Belinda Russell. It has been broadcast live by the Nine Network since 2009 and airs after children's programming and runs from 7am to 10am on weekends. The show is broadcast from the Nine Network studios in North Sydney, a suburb located on the North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales. History In January 2009, David Gyngell, chief executive of the Nine Network and John Westacott, former head of news and current affairs announced that ''Today'' would begin broadcasting on Sunday mornings. The program entitled, ''Today on Sunday'', competes in the same timeslot as the Seven Network's ''Weekend Sunrise'', which dominates Sunday morning television nationally, except on the east coast. Breakfast television (Europe, Canada, and Australia) or morning show (United States) is a type of news or infotainment television programme that broadcasts live in the morning (typically scheduled between 5:00 and 10:00a.m., or if it is a local programme, as early as 4:00a.m.). David Gyngell
David Liam Barr Gyngell (born 1966), an Australian businessman, was the former Chief Executive Officer of Nine Entertainment Co. which owns a string of businesses including the Nine Network and Nine Radio. Gyngell was the CEO of the Nine Network before resigning in May 2005. After a period of declining ratings compared to Channel Seven, he returned to the job in September 2007, succeeding Eddie McGuire. In November 2013, he was appointed as the CEO of Nine Entertainment Co. He resigned as CEO in 2015, and was replaced by Hugh Marks. Personal life Gyngell is the son of Australian television pioneer Bruce Gyngell and the best man and former flatmate of James Packer, whom he first met at Cranbrook School, the former owner of the Nine Network. Karl Stefanovic ( sr-Cyrl, Карл Стефановић; born 12 August 1974), also spelt Karl Stefanović, is an Australian television presenter and journalist for the Nine Network. Stefanovic is currently a co-host of the Nine Network's breakfast program ''Today'' and presents for ''60 Minutes''. Career Early life Stefanovic studied journalism at university, but after earning his degree could not secure a cadetship. At his father's suggestion, he auditioned for NIDA, but did not make the final cut despite making it through a few rounds of auditions. ''60 Minutes'' is an Australian version of the United States television newsmagazine show ''60 Minutes,'' airing since 1979 on Sunday nights on the Nine Network. TV Tonight is an Australian-based website which features reviews, news and programming information related to television in Australia as well as OzTAM ratings information. The site was started by television critic David Knox in 2007 after listeners of his radio programs asked him for information they had missed. Knox runs the site, publishing his interviews with Australian media actors, producers, directors and programmers. Knox regularly visits the sets of Australian television series and reviews television programs. Knox also served as television critic for Radio National's breakfast program from 2009 to 2015. Michael Jonathon Slater (born 21 February 1970) is an Australian former professional cricketer and former television presenter. Leila "Lennard" McKinnon (born 28 September 1972) is an Australian journalist and television presenter. She is a reporter and fill in presenter for '' Nine News'' and '' A Current Affair''.
