Wednesbury Old Athletic F.C.
Wednesbury Old Athletic, often referred to as W.O.A.C., was an English association football club based in Wednesbury, West Midlands (Staffordshire at the time). There were three clubs that had this name. Original club The first began life as the Wednesbury Literary & Athletic Institute in October 1874, adopting the more familiar title of Wednesbury Old Athletic Club (WOAC for short) the following year. WOAC became a founder member of the Birmingham & District Football Association in December 1875 and won the inaugural Birmingham Senior Cup competition, defeating Stafford Road 3–2 in the 1877 Final, at the Calthorpe F.C. ground, in front of between two and three thousand spectators. This success was repeated two years later, and in 1880, having joined the Staffordshire Football Association, the Old Athletic won the Staffs Cup, beating Aston Villa 2–1 in the Final. The Oval (Wednesbury)
The Oval was a cricket and football ground in Wednesbury, England. It was the home ground of Wednesbury Old Athletic, and also hosted two Walsall matches at the start of the 1893–94 season. History The ground was located to the north-west of Wednesbury town centre, and featured a pavilion located close to St Paul's road, which ran along the northern boundary. At the end of the 1892–93 season Walsall left the Chuckery to move to West Bromwich Road. However, the new ground was not ready at the start of the 1893–94 season, so the club played two matches at the Oval. Staffordshire County League (South)
The Staffordshire County League (South) was an English football league that existed from 1892 until 1996 and catered for clubs in the South Staffordshire area. It was also known at various times as the Walsall & District Junior League, Walsall & District League, and Walsall Senior League. History The league was formed as the Walsall & District Junior League in May 1892 following a meeting of representatives of various local clubs at the People's Coffee House in Walsall. The nine founder members were Bloxwich Strollers, Brownhills Albion, Cannock Town, Cotterill's (Darlaston), Lichfield Leomansley, Tettenhall Wood, Walsall Rangers, Wolverhampton Presbyterians and Wolverhampton St Chad's, but Lichfield Leomansley and Walsall Rangers withdrew during the 1892–93 season and their playing records were removed. 1885–86 FA Cup
The 1885–86 Football Association Challenge Cup was the 15th edition of the FA Cup, England's oldest football tournament. There were 130 entrants, sixteen more than in the previous season, although six teams did not play a match. Five Scottish clubs entered but one was eliminated in the first round in an all-Scottish tie and travel constraints caused the rest to withdraw. Blackburn Rovers became the second team to win the competition in three successive seasons and, as of 2022, they remain the last to do so. The final between Blackburn and West Bromwich Albion is the earliest to have been contested by two extant clubs that are still members of either the Premier League or the English Football League.
