Wedding Present (film)
''Wedding Present'' is a 1936 romantic screwball comedy film directed by Richard Wallace and starring Joan Bennett and Cary Grant. The screenplay was written by Joseph Anthony, based on a story by Paul Gallico. The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures. Synopsis Charlie Mason and 'Rusty' Fleming are reporters for a Chicago tabloid who are romantically involved. Charlie's mischievous shenanigans cause Rusty to move to New York. Charlie resigns his job and, along with gangster friend 'Smiles' Benson, he pursues Rusty to win her back before she marries a stuffy society author. Richard Wallace (director)
Richard Wallace (August 26, 1894 – November 3, 1951) was an American film director. He began working in the editing department at Mack Sennett Studios in the early 1920s. He later moved on to rival Hal Roach Studios where he began directing two-reel films, on some of which he collaborated with Stan Laurel. In 1926, Wallace began directing feature-length films. Several of Wallace's memorable films include three Shirley Temple films, ''A Night to Remember (1943 film), A Night to Remember'' (1943) with Loretta Young, and ''The Little Minister (1934 film), The Little Minister'' (1934) with Katharine Hepburn. He was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America. He died of a heart attack. Inez Courtney
Inez Courtney (October 12, 1897 – April 5, 1975) was an American actress on the Broadway stage and in films. Early years Born in Amsterdam, New York, Courtney came from a large Irish-American family. After her father's death when she was fifteen, she decided to go onto the stage. Career At age 16, Courtney was doing a specialty dance that earned her the nicknames of ''St Vitis'', ''Mosquito'' and ''Lightning''. Courtney's first role as a singer and dancer came in the musical ''The Little Whopper'' in 1919. She became known among New York theatrical audiences for her work in '' Good News'' (1927), a musical comedy about college life. Her other credits include ''Spring Is Here'' (1929) and '' America's Sweetheart'' (1931). In the early 1930s, she left Broadway and went to Hollywood. Dagmar Oakland (born Edna Martine Dagmar Andersen; August 21, 1897 – October 8, 1989) was an American actress of stage and screen from San Francisco, California. Twice she was a member of the Ziegfeld Follies. Family Oakland's parents were Edward Andersen of Fredrikstad, Norway and Anna Marthine Olsen, also of Norway. Her siblings' names were Edward, Herbert (née Hagbart), and Vivien. Her sister performed on Broadway and in motion pictures as Vivian Oakland. After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Anna Andersen, a widow since 1898, moved the family to Oakland, California, where the sisters took their stage names. Stage Edna and Vivien appeared in vaudeville as the Anker sisters (an old family name). They changed their surname to Oakland in tribute to their hometown.
