Webster Chikabala
Webster 'Webby' Chikabala (27 March 1965 – 27 December 1997) was a Zambian football player and coach. Seen by many as one of the best players of his generation, he represented his country at the African Cup of Nations in 1990 and 1992. He was the first Zambian to play professional football in Portugal when he joined Maritimo in August 1990. He died in 1997. Club career Chikabala was born in Chambishi and spent his youth years with the local team Chambishi Blackburn (now called Chambishi FC), in FAZ Division I, before moving to Mufulira Blackpool in 1984 where he spent two seasons and thereafter joined Ndola side Vitafoam United in 1986. A skilful attacking midfielder who could also play as a target man, his performances attracted the attention of Nchanga Rangers and he signed for them in early 1987. Chambishi
Chambishi is a town in Kalulushi District in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. According to the 2021 Census its population stands at slightly above 11,000. It is located on the T3 Road (Kitwe-Chingola Dual Carriageway) between the cities of Kitwe and Chingola. It was re-established in 1963 as a company township for the mine workers of Chambishi Mine which was under Chibuluma Mine of Kalulushi. This was after an announcement by Sir Ronald Prain, Chairman of Roan Selection Trust, in May 1962 that the company was going to open up the Chambishi open pit-pit mine at a cost of 7.5 million British Pounds. Chambishi has been under civic administration of Kalulushi Municipal Council from 1963, another mining town on the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. The Senegal national football team ( French: ''Équipe de football du Senegal''), nicknamed the ''Lions of Teranga'', represents Senegal in international association football and is operated by the Senegalese Football Federation. Ashols Melu
Ashious Jordan Melu (6 June 1957 – 20 January 1997), also known as Ashios (or Ashols Melu), was a Zambian footballer and coach. Melu captained the Zambia national team from 1988 to 1992. Playing career Melu was born in Chililabombwe on June 6, 1957, and attended ''Chililabombwe Secondary School.'' He began playing for the Konkola Blades before moving to Mufulira Wanderers in the late 1970s. Melu played as a striker and was the top goal scorer in the Zambian league in 1983, scoring 43 goals, and winning the ''Zambian Footballer of the Year'' award. Charly Musonda (footballer, Born 1969)
Charles Musonda (born 22 August 1969) is a Zambian former professional footballer. At his peak, he played as a midfielder for Belgian club Anderlecht. Career His debut as a professional for Zambia came in 1988 against Ghana in Lusaka which Zambia won 2–0 and Musonda did not disappoint, tellingly imposing himself on the game. He was one of the star players at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul as Zambia reached the quarter-finals, trouncing Italy and Guatemala with 4–0 scorelines along the way. Kalusha Bwalya
Kalusha Bwalya (born 16 August 1963) is a Zambian former international association football, footballer. He is Zambia national football team, Zambia's Zambia national football team#Most capped players, eighth-most Cap (sport), capped player and third on the list of Zambia national football team#Top goalscorers, all-time top goalscorers behind Godfrey Chitalu and Alex Chola. 1988 Summer Olympics
The 1988 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XXIV Olympiad () and commonly known as Seoul 1988 ( ko, 서울 1988, Seoul Cheon gubaek palsip-pal), was an international multi-sport event held from 17 September to 2 October 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. 159 nations were represented at the games by a total of 8,391 athletes (6,197 men and 2,194 women). 237 events were held and 27,221 volunteers helped to prepare the Olympics.
