Webjay
Webjay was a web-based playlist service launched in early 2004. Playlists consisted of links to Vorbis, MP3, Windows Media Audio, WMA, RealAudio and/or other audio files on the web. Webjay users could create new playlists by copying from existing playlists, or by web scraping audio file links from external web pages or playlists. The site was created by Lucas Gonze. Yahoo! announced its acquisition of Webjay on January 9, 2006. It closed down the Webjay site at the end of June, 2007. Web scraping portions of Webjay were incorporated into the Yahoo! products Yahoo! Media Player and Easy Listener. The Webjay logo was created by Perri Harper. Copyright issues Although Webjay did not host any files, it made an effort to avoid potential copyright disputes by removing links upon request of the content or host owner. Playlist
A playlist is a list of video or audio files that can be played back on a media player either sequentially or in a shuffled order. In its most general form, an audio playlist is simply a list of songs, but sometimes a loop. The term has several specialized meanings in the realms of television broadcasting, radio broadcasting and personal computers. A playlist can also be a list of recorded titles on a digital video disk. On the Internet, a playlist can be a list of chapters in a movie serial; for example, Flash Gordon in the Planet Mongo is available on YouTube as a playlist of thirteen consecutive video chapters. Radio The term originally came about in the early days of top 40 radio formats when stations would devise (and, eventually, publish) a limited list of songs to be played. Web Widget
A web widget is a web page or web application that is embedded as an element of a host web page but which is substantially independent of the host page, having limited or no interaction with the host. A web widget commonly provides users of the host page access to resources from another web site, content that the host page may be prevented from accessing itself by the browser's same-origin policy or the content provider's CORS policy. That content includes advertising (Google's AdSense), sponsored external links (Taboola), user comments (Disqus), social media buttons (Twitter, Facebook), news (USA Today), and weather (AccuWeather). Jon Udell is a freelance journalist. From 2007 to 2014 he was "Evangelist" at Microsoft. Previously he was lead analyst for the InfoWorld Test Center. Udell is author of ''Practical Internet Groupware'', published in 1999 by O'Reilly Media, and is an advisor to O'Reilly's Safari Tech Books Online.
