We Are X (soundtrack)
''We Are X'' is the 2017 soundtrack album to the documentary film ''We Are X'', containing a compilation of songs by Japanese heavy metal band X Japan. It was released on March 3, 2017 by Sony Music's Legacy Recordings. In the first week of the release of the album it reached No. 4 in Japan's Oricon Albums Chart. It also reached No. 1 in the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart, No. 3 in the UK Soundtrack Albums Chart and No. 27 in the main UK Albums Chart, making it their first appearance on the UK chart. Overview Tracks 1 and 14 are new songs exclusive to this soundtrack album. The Japan-exclusive Blu-spec CD version of the soundtrack includes two additional songs. "La Venus" was written for the documentary film. Yoshiki already had the idea for it, but when director Stephen Kijak asked him to write the film's ending theme, he started structuring "La Venus" and finished the lyrics. X Japan
was a Japanese rock band from Chiba, formed in 1982 by drummer and pianist Yoshiki and lead vocalist Toshi. Starting as a predominantly power/speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads. Besides being one of the first Japanese acts to achieve mainstream success while on an independent label, the group is widely credited as one of the pioneers of visual kei, a movement among Japanese musicians comparable to Western glam. Originally named , they released their debut album ''Vanishing Vision'' (1988) on Yoshiki's own Extasy Records one year after finalizing their line-up including bassist Taiji, lead guitarist Hide and rhythm guitarist Pata. Taiji (musician)
, also known mononymously as Taiji, was a Japanese musician and songwriter. He is best known as the former bassist of the rock band X. X rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, credited as founders of the Japanese visual kei movement. After leaving X in January 1992, Taiji went on to work with many other bands, including Loudness and D.T.R. Early life Taiji Sawada was born in Ichikawa, Chiba, on July 12, 1966. He was the second son of three children. His younger sister Masayo is a singer known as Sister MAYO. When Taiji was two years of age, he shoved his hand into a machine in a factory where his parents worked, resulting in a first joint cut on the middle finger, but luckily, it was not too serious. Hide (musician)
, known professionally as hide, was a Japanese musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the rock band X Japan from 1987 to 1997 and a solo artist from 1993 onward. He also formed the United States-based rock supergroup Zilch in 1996. Hide sold millions of records, both solo and as a member of X Japan. X Japan rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, credited as founders of the Japanese visual kei movement. When they disbanded in 1997, he focused on his solo career which started four years prior and went on to enjoy significant popularity. At the height of his fame, while recording his third studio album and about to launch an international career with the newly formed Zilch, he died in 1998 of what was ruled a suicide by hanging. Summary "Dahlia" went on to become the title track of the band's 1996 album and one of Yoshiki's last compositions in his signature blend of speed and symphonic metal. The song's title, "Dahlia", appears in the lyrics as an acronym during a voice over, which says "destiny, alive, heaven, love, innocence, always, destroy, aftermath, hell, life, infinite". "Forever Love" is the fourteenth single by Japanese heavy metal band X Japan, released on July 8, 1996. Summary The song was written and composed by Yoshiki. An acoustic version appears on their album ''Dahlia''. The single has been reissued several times. The Last Live (X Japan Album)
''The Last Live'' is an X Japan live album released on May 5, 2001. It contains what was the band's last concert, recorded at the Tokyo Dome on December 31, 1997. The band, however, has since reunited, though this was their last live concert with guitarist Hideto "hide" Matsumoto, who died nearly half a year thereafter. A DVD/ VHS version was also released, titled '' The Last Live Video''. The album reached number 7 on the Oricon chart. One of the band's oldest songs, they have been performing "Kurenai" since 1985, and several versions have been released, most significantly as their major-label debut single on September 1, 1989. Background and release "Kurenai" was first released on X's June 1985 live demo tapes, which were titled "Live" and "Endless Dream".
