Wayside is a small unincorporated community in Lynn County, Texas, United States. Today, the community is best described as a ghost town with only a few farms and ranches scattered across the area. Geography In the state of Texas, there are six small communities that share the name Wayside. On the high plains of the Llano Estacado is Wayside (Armstrong County), Wayside (Roberts County), and Wayside (Lynn County). The other three communities, which lie in Central Texas, include Wayside (Bastrop County), Wayside (Wood County) and Wayside (Panola County). Wayside (Armstrong County) is located approximately to the north and Wayside (Roberts County) is approximately to the north-northeast of Wayside (Lynn County). The remnants of Wayside (Lynn County) lie on the high plains at an altitude of in north-central Lynn County at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 211 and U.S. Highway 87. Lynn County, Texas
Lynn County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,596. Its county seat is Tahoka. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1903. Lynn County, along with Crosby and Lubbock Counties, is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The Lubbock MSA and Levelland Micropolitan Statistical Area (µSA), encompassing only Hockley County, form the larger Lubbock–Levelland Combined Statistical Area (CSA). Lynn County was one of 30 prohibition, or entirely dry, counties in Texas, but is now a moist county. The county has two historical museums, the O'Donnell Heritage Museum, with a Dan Blocker room in O'Donnell, and the Tahoka Pioneer Museum in Tahoka. Wayside, Armstrong County, Texas
Wayside is a small unincorporated community in Armstrong County, Texas, United States. In 2000, the population was thirty-five. The community is part of the Amarillo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Wayside was originally named Beulah, after the daughter of one of the McSpadden family's daughters. It was renamed Wayside for its location on the "wayside" of the Palo Duro Canyon. A post office was established at Wayside in September 1897 with Hervey J. Bradford as postmistress. The community's first settlers were cowboys on the JA Ranch who developed line camps along the canyon's south rim. A road was also built to move cattle and ranch outfits across the canyon to the community. It was a retail supply point for an area that was perfect for livestock raising and irrigated farming. Caprock Escarpment
The Caprock Escarpment is a term used in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico to describe the geographical transition point between the level High Plains of the Llano Estacado and the surrounding rolling terrain. In Texas, the escarpment stretches around south-southwest from the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle near the Oklahoma border. The escarpment is especially notable, from north to south, in Briscoe, Floyd, Motley, Crosby, Dickens, Garza, and Borden Counties. Farm to Market Road 400 (FM 400) is a farm to market road located in Lynn, Lubbock, Hale, and Swisher counties in the Llano Estacado of Texas. Route description The southern terminus of FM 400 is at an interchange with US 87 north of the Tahoka city limits. The route travels to the northeast through rural areas of Lynn County, passing to the west of Tahoka Lake and through Wilson along that city's 10th Street before entering Lubbock County.
