Waxahatchee
Waxahatchee is an American indie music project, formed in 2010 by American singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield (born 4 January 1989), previously a member of P.S. Eliot. The band is named after Waxahatchee Creek, in Alabama, where Crutchfield grew up. Originally an acoustic solo project, her recordings now tend to involve a backing band, and the music has increasingly been performed this way. ''Ivy Tripp'' is the third studio album by American indie musician Waxahatchee, released on April 7, 2015, on Merge Records domestically, and Wichita Recordings Wichita Recordings is an independent record label located in London, founded in 2000 by Mark Bowen and Dick Green. Its most notable signees include Bloc Party, The Cribs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Ye ... internationally. Saint Cloud (album)
''Saint Cloud'' is the fifth studio album by American indie rock act Waxahatchee, released on March 27, 2020, by Merge Records. Background Waxahatchee frontwoman Katie Crutchfield described the album's main themes as "addiction and codependency". Much of ''Saint Cloud'' was inspired by her struggles with alcoholism, which came to a fore during the promotional tour for Waxahatchee's '' Out in the Storm'' (2017), and subsequent decision to get sober. Crutchfield titled the album and its titular song after her father's hometown of St. Cloud, Florida, a small community outside of Orlando. Critical reception Robert Christgau reviewed the album in his Substack-published "Consumer Guide" column in July 2020. ''Out in the Storm'' is the fourth studio album by Katie Crutchfield's band Waxahatchee, released on July 14, 2017 through Merge. It features her sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, as well as Katie Harkin (the touring guitarist for Sleater-Kinney), Katherine Simonetti, and Ashley Arnwine. Dinosaur Jr./ Sonic Youth producer John Agnello recorded the album live. The album was released digitally, on vinyl and compact disc. Reception ''Out in the Storm'' gained a positive reception from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 80 based on 28 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". ''Cerulean Salt'' is the second studio album by American indie musician Waxahatchee, released on March 5, 2013 on Don Giovanni Records. Co-produced by Swearin' members, Kyle Gilbride and Keith Spencer, the album was recorded in primary recording artist Katie Crutchfield's basement. The album was recognized as one of The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far, a list published by Pitchfork Media in August 2014. Waxahatchee Creek
Waxahatchee Creek is a tributary of the lower Coosa River near Shelby, Alabama. It forms the southeastern border between Shelby County and Chilton County, where it is crossed by Alabama State Route 145. The lower reaches of Waxahatchee Creek are broad and popular with water skiers and recreational boaters. Several resort camps and marinas are located on the creek, and anglers have found the submerged forests of the middle to upper creek are favorite spots for largemouth bass. The channel is known for crappie. In the upper creek, the water grows very shallow, but there are "holes" of deep water where bluegill and bream are plentiful. Waxahatchee Creek is part of the habitat of the threatened round rocksnail, which is included on the United States Fish and Wildlife Service list of endangered species. Swearin'
Swearin' is a Philadelphia-based musical group made up of singer/guitarist Allison Crutchfield, singer/guitarist Kyle Gilbride, bassist Keith Spencer and drummer Jeff Bolt. They released two albums and an EP. The band split in 2015 and Crutchfield embarked on a solo career. In November 2017, Swearin' announced that they had reunited and would go on tour in support of Superchunk in 2018. Don Giovanni Records is an independent record label originally specializing in punk rock from the New Brunswick, New Jersey music scene but eventually working with a variety of artists from different genres. History Don Giovanni Records was founded by Joe Steinhardt and Zach Gajewski while they were living in Boston in 2004. Sled Island
The Sled Island Music & Arts Festival is an annual independent music and arts festival formed in 2007 and held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Sonic Ranch
Sonic Ranch, in the border town of Tornillo, Texas, is the world's largest residential recording studio complex. There are five studios designed by Vincent Van Haaff on a pecan orchard, which borders the Rio Grande and Mexico. Located east of El Paso, Texas, in the border town of Tornillo, there are five houses on the property where artists stay while recording. The studio was founded in 1989 by the current owner/director Tony Rancich around a large traditional Spanish hacienda, which is an adobe structure that was built in the late 1930s, with pine-tree vigas as the ceiling structure. Some rock bands have noted the calm, rural wilderness and easy access to Ciudad Juárez across the border.
