Wausau ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. The Wisconsin River divides the city into east and west. The city's suburbs include Schofield, Weston, Mosinee, Maine, Rib Mountain, Kronenwetter, and Rothschild. As of the 2020 census, Wausau had a population of 39,994. History The company began in 1996 when the microfilm division of Cedar Rapids-based Crest Information Technologies was sold to Christopher Gill. The ''Wausau Daily Herald'' is a daily morning broadsheet printed in Wausau, Wisconsin. It is the primary newspaper in Wausau and is distributed throughout Marathon and Lincoln counties. The ''Daily Herald'' is owned by the Gannett Company, which owns ten other newspapers in Wisconsin. The newspaper also runs a website where people can pay to read the news.
