Wauconda ( or ) is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 14,084. It is the site of the Wauconda Bog Nature Preserve, a National Natural Landmark. Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade who live in Wauconda and surrounding communities ( Island Lake, Lakemoor, Volo, and unincorporated sections of McHenry County). Fremont School District 79 also serves students from communities from northern part of Wauconda. Government Wauconda's local government consists of a Mayor, Clerk, and six-member Board of Trustees who are elected to four-year overlapping terms of office. Wauconda High School, officially Wauconda Community High School, and most commonly WHS, is a public four-year high school located in Wauconda, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Wauconda Community Unit School District 118. History Wauconda High School first opened its doors in September 1915. Campus Wauconda High has a large campus. It has the main area, where most classes and everyday schools tuff take place, and an events hallway, which has the auditorium, gyms, the band room, and more. These sections are connected by a few hallways. There are two cafeterias, the smaller of which is only used by freshmen. The school has a full-time police officer dedicated to the school, along with a few security officers.
