Watermarks (film)
''Watermarks'' is a 2004 award-winning theatrical feature documentary co-written and directed by Yaron Zilberman as his directorial debut. The film reunites the champion women swimmers of the legendary Jewish sports club, Hakoah Vienna, who were forced to disband during the rise of fascism in 1930s Austria. Synopsis ''Watermarks'' tells the story of the champion women swimmers of Hakoah Vienna. Hakoah was founded in 1909 in response to the notorious Aryan Paragraph, which forbade Austrian sports clubs from accepting Jewish athletes. Its founders were eager to popularize sport among a community renowned for such great minds as Freud, Mahler and Zweig, but traditionally alien to physical recreation. Hakoah rapidly grew into one of Europe's biggest athletic clubs, achieving astonishing success in many diverse sports. Yaron Zilberman
Yaron Zilberman ( he, ירון זילברמן; born October 2, 1966) is an Israeli-American director, screenwriter and producer. Career Zilberman directed, co-wrote and produced ''A Late Quartet'' which starred Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, Catherine Keener, Mark Ivanir and Imogen Poots. The film premiered in the Special Presentation program at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Inspired by and structured around String Quartet No. 14 (Beethoven), Beethoven's Opus 131, the film follows the world-renowned Fugue String Quartet after its cellist Peter Mitchell (Christopher Walken) is diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Cinematographer Frederick Elmes lensed the film and composer Angelo Badalamenti composed the score for the film. "Yours Is My Heart Alone" or "You Are My Heart's Delight" (German: "") is an aria from the 1929 operetta ''The Land of Smiles'' (') with music by Franz Lehár and the libretto by Fritz Löhner-Beda and . It was for many years associated with the tenor Richard Tauber, for whom it was written. The aria is sung by the character of Prince Sou-Chong in act 2. An American version of the show opened on Broadway theatre, Broadway in 1946 starring Tauber but it soon closed as Tauber had throat trouble. The aria has been sung in Italian (as "Tu che m'hai preso il cuor" [You who have taken my heart]) by a few operatic tenors, notably Giuseppe Di Stefano, Mario Del Monaco, and Luciano Pavarotti. Composition Written in D-flat major, Lehár had composed parts of the song already in 1923 when the original version of the operetta premiered under the title ' (The Yellow Jacket). Stephen Holden (born July 18, 1941) is an American writer, poet, and music and film critic. Biography Holden earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University in 1963. He worked as a photo editor, staff writer, and eventually became an A&R executive for RCA Records before turning to writing pop music reviews and related articles for ''Rolling Stone'' magazine, ''Blender'', ''The Village Voice'', ''The Atlantic'', and '' Vanity Fair'', among other publications. He first achieved prominence with his 1970s ''Rolling Stone'' work, where he tended to cover singer-songwriter and traditional pop artists. Hermann Leopoldi (born ''Hersch Kohn''; 15 August 1888 – 28 June 1959) was an Austrian composer and cabaret star who survived Dachau and Buchenwald.
