Waterloo Warriors Men's Basketball
The Waterloo Warriors men's basketball team represents the University of Waterloo in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) of U Sports men's basketball. The Warriors have won the Wilson Cup, awarded to the OUA champions, 6 times: from 1974 to 1977, in 1983 and most recently in 1986. In addition, they have been awarded the W. P. McGee Trophy national championship trophy once, in 1975. History The Warrior's basketball program was founded shortly after the university's inception in 1957 and has participated in every season since. Waterloo Warriors
The Waterloo Warriors are the athletic teams that represent the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The Warriors have found success over certain spans in football, hockey, rugby, golf and basketball among others, and the Warriors have won national championships in hockey (1974), basketball (1975), and women's swimming (1975). For many years from the 1960s through the 1990s, Warrior basketball games attracted the largest and rowdiest basketball crowds in the country. The Warriors Football teams have won two Yates Cup Championships, in 1997 and in 1999. The team's 2010 season was cancelled after a steroid scandal, the biggest ever in CIS Football history. Ontario University Athletics (OUA; french: Sports universitaires de l'Ontario) is a regional membership association for Canadian universities which assists in co-ordinating competition between their university level athletic programs and providing contact information, schedules, results, and releases about those programs and events to the public and the media. U Sports (stylized as U SPORTS) is the national sport governing body of university sport in Canada, comprising the majority of degree-granting universities in the country. Wilson Cup (basketball)
The Wilson Cup is the championship and trophy awarded annually to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's basketball champion. The championship is played at the home of the highest remaining playoff seed from either the East or West Division, depending on the year. History The Wilson Cup was first awarded for the 1908-09 season by Harold Wilson of Toronto. The Cup was originally the championship trophy of the first Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union which existed until 1955 and despite its name, was composed only of Ontario and Quebec universities. The Cup was then inherited by the original CIAU's successor, the Ontario-Quebec Athletic Association which eventually became the OUA.
