Waterford Bus Station
Waterford Bus Station serves the city of Waterford in the south-east of Ireland. It is situated on the quay in Waterford. It was opened in 1987 and redeveloped in 2000. There are 16 stands for buses. The station has a shop, travel centre, security offices, toilets and ticket desk and machines. The bus station is used by Bus Éireann for regional services mainly although some city centre services depart form the station. Most city centre buses depart from the Clock Tower bus stop beside the station. At night buses do not stay at the station as it is a very open area and buses go to a depot in the city. Bus Éireann (; "Irish Bus") is a state-owned bus and coach operator providing services throughout Ireland, with the exception of Dublin and the Greater Dublin Area, where bus services are provided by sister company Dublin Bus. Clock towers are a specific type of structure which house a turret clock and have one or more clock faces on the upper exterior walls. Many clock towers are freestanding structures but they can also adjoin or be located on top of another building. Some other buildings also have clock faces on their exterior but these structures serve other main functions. Transport 21
Transport 21 was an Irish infrastructure plan, announced in November 2005. Its aims were to greatly expand Ireland's transport network. A cost estimate of €34 billion was attached to the plan at the time. The plan included continuing investment in Ireland's road network, along with investment in public transport in the form of buses and rail. After the collapse of the Irish banking system the Transport 21 project was cancelled in May 2011. A significant portion of this investment would focus on the creation of an integrated rail network in Dublin. Projects included a tunnel under Dublin city centre connecting Heuston Station with Pearse Station and Docklands station at Spencer Dock. This would facilitate the expansion of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) system from one line to two.
