Watcher In The Attic
''aka'' ''Stroller in the Attic'', ''Edogawa Rampo Theater: Walker in the Attic'' and ''Walker in the Attic'' is a 1976 Japanese film in Nikkatsu's ''Roman porno'' series, directed by Noboru Tanaka and starring Junko Miyashita. Plot In 1923 Tokyo Lady Minako is the owner of a shabby boarding house with a collection of bizarre characters for tenants. Gōda, one of her tenants, spends most of his time in the attic spying on the other tenants through holes he has drilled into the ceiling. During one of his peeping sessions, Gōda witnesses the murder of one of the tenants at the hand of Lady Minako. Gōda becomes obsessed with Lady Minako, and determines to commit a grotesque murder in order to prove to her that he is her soul mate. He kills another tenant - a priest - by dripping poison into his mouth through the ceiling. A series of grotesque murders follow. Noboru Tanaka
was a Japanese film director known for his ''Roman Porno'' films, including three critically respected films known as the ''Showa trilogy'': '' A Woman Called Sada Abe'' (''aka'' ''Sada Abe: Docu-Drama'') (1975), ''Watcher in the Attic'' (1976), and '' Beauty's Exotic Dance: Torture!'' (1977), all three starring Nikkatsu ''Roman porno'' queen Junko Miyashita. The first film in this trilogy recounted the story of Sada Abe a year before Nagisa Oshima's internationally released ''In the Realm of the Senses'' (1976), which told the same story. Though at the time he was working, his career was overshadowed by directors such as Tatsumi Kumashiro and Chūsei Sone, many critics today judge Tanaka the best of Nikkatsu's ''Roman porno'' directors. is a 1994 Japanese movie. It is based on the stories of Edogawa Rampo. It was released in the United States by The Samuel Goldwyn Company as ''The Mystery of Rampo''. Originally shot by Rintaro Mayuzumi, the director had a falling out with producer Okuyama who then reshot much of the film and added many of the surreal elements. Plot summary In an animated introduction a man hides in a nagamochi while playing hide and seek with neighboring children, but he is locked in and can hardly breathe.
