Hampton Del Ruth
Hampton Del Ruth (September 7, 1879 – May 15, 1958) was an American film actor, director, screenwriter, and film producer. Among other work, he wrote the intertitles In films, an intertitle, also known as a title card, is a piece of filmed, printed text edited into the midst of (i.e., ''inter-'') the photographed action at various points. Intertitles used to convey character dialogue are referred to as "dialo ... for the final American studio-made silent film ''Legong: Dance of the Virgins'' (1935). Del Ruth began working in film in 1913 and continued until the early 1930s. He also wrote at least two novels: ''Port o' Heart's Desire'' (1926) and ''Without Restraint'' (1936). Cliff Bowes
Cliff Bowes (November 14, 1894 – July 6, 1929), also known as Clifford Bowes, was an American silent film actor. He appeared in numerous comedy shorts. Biography Born on November 14, 1894, in Pueblo, Colorado, Bowes began his film career with a small, un-credited role in the 1916 film short ''His Lying Heart'', starring Ford Sterling. When the United States entered World War I, Bowes served as a navy pilot. By the end of the decade he was starring in short films, and during the 1920s he made over 100 of them. In 1920, he starred as Waldo Pennanink in his only full-length film, '' Up in Mary's Attic''. In 1923 he began starring in the Educational Pictures film short series ''Mermaid Comedies'', which ran through 1925. He is best remembered for another Education series, ''Cameo Comedies'', which co-starred Virginia Vance, which also began in 1923. Billy Armstrong (actor)
William Armstrong (14 January 1891 – 1 March 1924) was a British-American actor and comedian. Biography Armstrong was born on 14 January 1891 in Bristol, England. Armstrong started his career in the British music hall tradition and appeared in roles for Fred Karno from 1910 until 1914 in his native Bristol, before heading to the US and working in films for Keystone Studios, mainly in comedy roles, where he was a regular player in the films of Charlie Chaplin among others. Armstrong died from tuberculosis on 1 March 1924 in Sunland, California. Ben Turpin
Bernard "Ben" Turpin (September 19, 1869 – July 1, 1940) was an American comedian and actor, best remembered for his work in silent films. His trademarks were his cross-eyed appearance and adeptness at vigorous physical comedy. Turpin worked with notable performers such as Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy, and was a part of the Mack Sennett studio team. He is believed to have been the first filmed "victim" of the pie in the face gag. When sound came to films, Turpin chose to retire, having invested profitably in real estate, although he did do occasional cameos. Personal life Turpin was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 19, 1869,His birth date was given as September 19, 1869, but other years were used at various times in his Hollywood publicity material.
