Waste Warriors
Waste Warriors is a non-governmental organisation which undertakes waste collection, waste management consultancy, event waste management, and other related projects in Dehradun, Dharamshala, Corbett National Park, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and other parts of India. It was founded by Jodie Underhill and Taashi Pareek. Work Waste Warriors has done extensive work in the area of waste collection and waste management. Since they were registered in 2012, Waste Warriors has collected and processed over 4223 tonnes of waste from Bhagsunag and Triund. Due to the efforts of Waste Warriors, Triund is now known as one of the cleanest hiking destinations in India. In the year 2015-16, Waste Warriors collected 175,656 kg of waste from Corbett, 190,908 kg from Dehradun and 272,928 kg from Dharamsala. Jodie Underhill
Jodie Underhill is the co-founder of Waste Warriors, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) headquartered in Dehradun, India, that specialises in waste collection and waste management. Her work has led the Indian media to give her the nicknames 'Garbage Girl' and 'Waste Warrior'. She is a British expatriate, and her work in India has brought her recognition in various forms such as the 'Brand Icon Award' by ''The Times of India'' and the 'Green Hero Award' bCenter of Media Studies Background Born in Great Yarmouth, England, Jodie completed her schooling from Oakbank School, Keighley, England. Sunburn Festival
Sunburn Festival is a commercial electronic dance music festival held in India. Incepted by Serial Entrepreneur Shailendra Singh (entrepreneur), Shailendra Singh while Jt MD of Percept Ltd, under his captaincy, the festival grew to be ranked the 3rd largest dance festival in the world and "as big as Tomorrowland and Ultra" as per the IMS APAC Business Report 2014. It was ranked by CNN in 2009 as one of the Top 10 Festivals in the world. Spanning over three - five days, the festival has multiple stages with artists playing simultaneously. Waste Management In India
Waste management in India falls under the purview of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). In 2016, this ministry released the Solid Wastage Management (SWM) Rules, which replaced by the Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, and 2000 of which had been in place for 16 years. This national policy plays a significant role in the acknowledgement and inclusion of the informal sector ( waste pickers) into the waste management process for the first time. India generates 62 million tonnes of waste each year. About 43 million tonnes (70%) are collected, of which about 12 million tonnes are treated, and 31 million tonnes are dumped in landfill sites. The Ugly Indian
The Ugly Indians (TUI) are an anonymous group of volunteers who clean Indian streets. Volunteers can join TUI by sending a mail to The Ugly Indian or by registering one's name and email address on TUI's official Facebook page. Spotfixing TUI calls cleaning the street "spotfixing". TUI chooses small segments of road each week to clean: pavements piled up with plastic, defaced walls, footpaths rendered unusable by potholes as spotfixing places. All tools, materials and instructions are provided on the spot. All spot-fixes are self-funded and volunteers are requested to make a contribution towards material costs. Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. It is a restructured version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2009 and carried out by predecessor Manmohan Singh that failed to achieve its intended targets. Phase 1 of the Swachh Bharat Mission lasted till October 2019. Phase 2 is being implemented between 2020–21 and 2024–25 to help cement the work of Phase 1. The Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium is a cricket ground located in Mohali, Punjab. It is popularly referred to as the Mohali Stadium.
