Washington RFC
Washington Rugby Football Club (WRFC) is a USA Rugby club men's Division I rugby union team based in Washington, DC. Washington RFC formed in February, 1963. The team founded the annual Cherry Blossom tournament in 1966. WRFC plays in the Mid-Atlantic Conference in the Capital Geographical Union. WRFC won its first 2021 Capital Region Champion and its first debut in the Mid-Atlantic Conference for Division II. In 2022, WRFC moved from Division II to Division I Rugby. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. ---- Mitch Cox (born 15 November 1993) is an English rugby league footballer who plays as a second-row forward for Swinton Lions in the Betfred Championship. He has previously played at club level for the Leigh Centurions (now known as Leigh Leopards as of 2022 season) in the Betfred Championship. Background Born in Manchester, Cox started his rugby league career in the reserve team at the Leigh Centurions. Between two spells with the Leigh Centurions academy system, Cox signed for Australian Rugby League Club Thirroul Butchers where he played a season before returning to the Leigh Centurions. Robinson M. Bordley (born 1947) is an American former rugby union player who played as a fly-half and fullback for the United States men's national team. He served as captain of the national team in its first two modern-era test matches in 1976. Early life and club rugby career Bordley was born circa 1947, the eldest son of Robert Austin Joseph Bordley and Martha Ann Bordley (born Robinson). Bordley attended Landon School, graduating in 1966. During his time as a student at Landon, Bordley was a multi-sport athlete and earned 17 varsity letters. Bordley then attended Princeton University, where he was a member of the university's football and lacrosse teams, earning all-Ivy League honors in each sport. Dan Lyle
Daniel Joseph Lyle (born September 28, 1970) is an American former rugby union player who played for the United States national rugby union team 45 times from 1994 to 2003, serving as U.S. captain in 24 of those matches. Lyle played number eight. Early life Lyle was born in Louisville, Kentucky. A 1992 graduate of Virginia Military Institute where he played college football, he took up rugby union at age 23 in an attempt to keep fit. National team Lyle debuted for the U.S. national team against Ireland in November 1994 at Lansdowne Road. He first captained the U.S. squad in a match against Japan in June 1996, in the Pacific Rim tournament. Paul Sheehy
Paul Sheehy (born August 14, 1963) is an American former Rugby union footballer for the United States. He started four matches for the U.S. in 1991–1992, including two starts at the 1991 Rugby World Cup. His position was fullback. Sheehy was born in Washington D.C. He was a four-year member of the Fairfield University rugby team, and he received his bachelor's degree from Fairfield University. Sheehy also played for the Washington Rugby Football Club from 1991 to 1993, and is now a member of the Washington Rugby Football Club Hall of Fame.
