Washington County, Georgia
Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,988. The county seat is Sandersville. The county was established on February 25, 1784. It was named for Revolutionary War general (and afterward President of the United States) George Washington. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.9%) is water. The western portion of Washington County, west of a north-to-south line running through Sandersville, is located in the Lower Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. The northeastern portion of the county, north of Riddleville, is located in the Upper Ogeechee River sub-basin of the Ogeechee River basin, while the southeastern portion, centered on Harrison, is located in the Ohoopee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. George Washington
George Washington (February 22, 1732, 1799) was an American military officer, statesman, and Founding Father who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. Appointed by the Continental Congress as commander of the Continental Army, Washington led the Patriot forces to victory in the American Revolutionary War and served as the president of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, which created the Constitution of the United States and the American federal government. Washington has been called the " Father of his Country" for his manifold leadership in the formative days of the country. Washington's first public office was serving as the official surveyor of Culpeper County, Virginia, from 1749 to 1750. Georgia State Route 231
State Route 231 (SR 231) is a north-south state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels entirely within Washington County. It serves as a ''de facto'' bypass or alternate route for travelers who desired to bypass Sandersville. Route description SR 231 begins at an intersection with SR 15 southwest of Harrison. Here, the roadway continues as Harts Ford Road. The highway travels northeast, traveling through Harrison. It continues northeast and turns north, until it reaches the town of Riddleville. State Route 102 (SR 102) is a state highway in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway travels from Warthen northeast through Mitchell, east through Gibson, southeast to Avera, and arcing east to Wrens. State Route 88 (SR 88) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast through portions of Washington, Jefferson, Burke, and Richmond counties in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia.
