Hank Fisher, (born 1954) more commonly known as Washboard Hank is a Canadian musician, songwriter and stage performer. He was born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1954. He plays a number of instruments, including banjo, guitar and percussion. Peterborough ( ) is a city on the Otonabee River in Ontario, Canada, about 125 kilometres (78 miles) northeast of Toronto. Peterborough Folk Festival
The Peterborough Folk Festival is a three-day music, arts, and community festival in Peterborough, Ontario. The festival is a non-profit organization which receives funding from the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation, The Department of Canadian Heritage -Arts Presentation Canada Program, and The City of Peterborough as well as private and corporate donations. It is one of the last free folk festivals in Ontario. The mandate of the PFF is to present high-quality music from a broad range of genres and cultures, as well as to foster community education and interaction. In 2001, the PFF introduced the Emerging Artist Award. Designed to promote and support young artists from the Peterborough Region, the award is given annually to an artist who has demonstrated skill as a songwriter and performer. Reverend Ken and the Lost Followers were a Canadian musical novelty act performing from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. Remembered for residencies at the Red Dog Tavern in Peterborough, Ontario, this is the location where they recorded their most famous song (and only single) ''The Midnight Ride of Red Dog Ray''. Performed throughout the province, with regular appearances at the Brunswick House on Bloor St. in Toronto. Fronted by "Reverend" Ken Ramsden on rhythm guitar and vocals, the group also included Hank "Washboard Hank" Fisher on washboard & vocals, Mathew "Cousin Matthew" Fines on lead guitar & vocals, Mike "Black-out/Blackie" Johnston on drums, and Earle "Stinkfoot" Hope on bass (although all members also played multiple other instruments). Fred Eaglesmith
Frederick John Elgersma (born July 9, 1957), known by the stage name Fred Eaglesmith, is a Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter. He is known for writing songs about vehicles, rural life, down-and-out characters, lost love and quirky rural folk. His songwriting uses techniques of short story writing, including unreliable narrators, surprise endings, and plot twists. In 2016, Eaglesmith toured extensively with his band. Early life Eaglesmith, one of nine children, was raised by a farming family near Guelph in rural Southern Ontario. He began playing the guitar at age 12.
