Warren Stute
Warren R. Stute (September 30, 1921 - August 9, 2007) was an American Thoroughbred horse racing trainer who conditioned racehorses for almost 70 years from a base in California. Clement L. Hirsch, co-founder and owner of Oak Tree Racing Association was among his prominent clients and someone whose horses he trained for more than forty years. He also trained for prominent show-biz people such as Walter Matthau as well as Betty Grable and her husband, bandleader Harry James. Racing career Warren Stute made plans for a career in racing as a jockey but after serving with the United States Army Air Force he was too heavy to ride and began working at the Santa Anita Park stables in Arcadia, California as a hotwalker and a galloper of horses under trainer Yorky McLeod. He obtained his trainers' license in 1940 and by 1948 had set up his own public stable. The Del Mar Handicap is an American thoroughbred horse race run each year during the third week of August at the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. The Grade II race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and three-eighths miles on the Jimmy Durante turf course. Harry Henson Stakes
The Harry Henson Stakes was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually during the third week of April as part of the opening day races of the spring/summer meet at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. Open to three-year-old horses, it was a non-graded stakes raced on turf that has been contested at a distance of six furlongs since 2007. The race offered a purse of US$70,000. Inaugurated in 1952 as the Debonair Stakes, it was renamed in 1991 to honor Harry Henson, a former jockey who was Hollywood Park's race caller from 1958 to 1982. The Last Tycoon Stakes (formerly known as the Inglewood Handicap) is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in late April at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. First run in 1938, the race is open to horses three years old and up. A Grade III stakes, it is raced on turf at a distance of miles (8.5 Furlongs). The event currently offers a purse of $100,000. Ack Ack Handicap (Hollywood Park)
The Ack Ack Handicap is a Grade III race for Thoroughbred horses run at Hollywood Park in June. Open to horses aged three and up, the Ack Ack is set at a distance of furlongs and offers a purse of $100,000. It was raced on dirt since its inaugural running in 2001 until 2007 after the new synthetic Cushion Track had been installed. The race is named for the great Ack Ack, inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Horse of the Year in 1971, as well as ranking number 44 in the Blood-Horse magazine List of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century. Senator Ken Maddy Handicap
The Senator Ken Maddy Stakes is a Listed American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares, two years old and older over a distance of five furlongs on the turf course scheduled in early November at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. The San Diego Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in late July/early August at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. This Grade II race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt. It is considered the track's key prep race for its foremost attraction, the $1-million Pacific Classic Stakes.
