Warren E. Tilson
Warren Edward "Tex" Tilson (June 8, 1902 –March 3, 1984) was an American college football player and coach for the Washington and Lee Generals. He was the brother of Sumner D. Tilson Sumner Dewey "Tex" Tilson (July 5, 1898 – November 13, 1964) was an American football player and coach. He served as head football coach at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI)—now known as Virginia Te .... He was captain of the 1924 football team, and also wrestled. As a coach, he led 1934 Washington and Lee Generals football team to the Southern Conference championship. Motley County, Texas
Motley County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,063, making it the 10th-least populous county in Texas. Its county seat is Matador. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1891. It is named for Junius William Mottley, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Mottley's name is spelled incorrectly because the bill establishing the county misspelled his name. Motley County was one of 30 prohibition, or entirely dry, counties in Texas, but is now a wet county. History Motley County was created on August 21, 1876, from Young and Bexar Counties. It was organized on February 5, 1891. 1937 College Football Season
The 1937 college football season ended with the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh being named the nation's No. 1 team (and "mythical national champion") by 30 of the 33 voters in the Associated Press writers' poll. The AP poll was in its second year, and seven votes were taken during the final weeks of the 1937 season, starting with October 18. Each writer listed his choice for the top ten teams, and points were tallied based on 10 for first place, 9 for second, etc., and the AP then ranked the twenty teams with the highest number of points. With 33 writers polled, Pitt received 30 first place votes and 3 second-place, for a total of 327 points. The NCAA began keeping official game statistics in 1937. The 1939 college football season concluded with the Aggies of The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (Texas A&M) being named as the national champions by the voters in the Associated Press writers' poll. Led by consensus All-American fullback John Kimbrough, the Aggies went undefeated at 11–0 and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 212 to 31, with the defense allowing just 54 first downs and 763 yards all season, or 1.71 yards per play.
