Warren County Fire Tower is a historic fire tower located near Liberia, Warren County, North Carolina. It was built in 1932, by the Aermotor Company of Chicago, Illinois. Background The Aermotor tower is a four sided truss steel frame with bolted connections that stands 100 feet tall. It is the only fire tower in Warren County and was operated until 1993. Liberia is an unincorporated community in Warren County, North Carolina, United States. The community is located at the junction of North Carolina Highway 43 and North Carolina Highway 58, which connect Rocky Mount and Wilson respectively to the county seat at Warrenton. Fire Tower
A fire lookout tower, fire tower or lookout tower, provides housing and protection for a person known as a "fire lookout" whose duty it is to search for wildfires in the wilderness. It is a small building, usually on the summit of a mountain or other high vantage point, to maximize viewing distance and range, known as ''view shed''. From this vantage point the fire lookout can see smoke that may develop, determine the location by using a device known as an ''Osborne Fire Finder'', and call fire suppression personnel to the fire. Warren County is a county located in the northeastern Piedmont region of the U.S. state of North Carolina, on the northern border with Virginia, made famous for a landfill and birthplace of the environmental justice movement.
