Warhorse (British Band)
Warhorse was a British rock band formed by Deep Purple's first bassist Nick Simper. Career After being sacked by Deep Purple in 1969, Simper joined Marsha Hunt's backing band. Not long after, Simper replaced her backing band with Ged Peck on guitar and Mac Poole on drums. When Hunt became pregnant, the band stopped touring, and Simper and Peck re-organized the group as Warhorse. Ashley Holt became the band's singer, and they recruited keyboardist Rick Wakeman. When their first demo was recorded in April 1970, Wakeman left to join the Strawbs and was replaced by Frank Wilson. Warhorse signed to Vertigo, and released their first album, ''Warhorse'' in November 1970. Warhorse was managed by Ron Hire, originally part of HEC Enterprises, the original investors in Deep Purple. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. Vertigo Records is a record company with United Kingdom origins. It was a subsidiary of the Philips/Phonogram record label, launched in 1969 to specialise in progressive rock and other non-mainstream musical styles. Today, it is operated by Universal Music Germany, and the UK catalogue was folded into Mercury Records, which was absorbed in 2013 by Virgin EMI Records, which returned to the EMI Records name in June 2020. ''Red Sea'' is the second and last album by English hard rock band Warhorse. The band is most known for its bass player, who was the original bassist of Deep Purple ( "Mark 1") from 1968 to 1969 for the first three albums. Background The CD reissue on the Angel Air label has six previously unreleased bonus tracks, including a live version of "Ritual" (from the first Warhorse album) and five demos all written by bassist Simper which did not appear on any record before. Richtie Unterberger claims, the album was "basically more of the same prog rock-proto metal". Except the song ''Confident But Wrong'' being more mainstream rock sounding or the soul based ''I (Who Have Nothing)''. Easybeats
The Easybeats were an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in late 1964. They enjoyed a level of success that in Australia rivalled The Beatles. They became the first Australian rock act to score an international hit, with the 1966 single "Friday on My Mind", as well as one of the few in Australia to foreground their original material. During their six-year run, they scored 15 top 40 hits in Australia, including " She's So Fine" and "Women (Make You Feel Alright)", with other No. 1 hits including "Friday on My Mind" and " Sorry".
