War And Peace Show
The War and Peace Revival (now the War and Peace Show) is a military vehicle show, militaria fair and living history re-enactment from the First World War to more recent conflicts. It is held annually over several days (usually in late July) at the Hop Farm Country Park, Kent, England (for four years between 2013 and 2016 it was held at Folkestone Racecourse (RAF Westenhanger)). Vehicles The revival hosts around 4000 military vehicles including tanks, armoured personnel carriers, armoured cars, amphibious vehicles, motorcycles, as well as light, medium and heavy military wheeled vehicles. The 2015 show attracted over 100,000 visitors during its five days. The armoured vehicles that participate in the show include those from The Wheatcroft Collection and the Jon Phillips Armor Collection. The Wheatcroft Collection
The Wheatcroft Collection in the United Kingdom is a large and important collection of historical softskin and armoured military vehicles. It is located in Leicestershire, England, and is one of the largest private collections of military vehicles in the world. Items in the collection The collection has around 200 items, including more than 130 vehicles, of which 88 are tanks. The majority of the collection is of German, American and British origin, with a smaller number of vehicles from Norway, Japan, France, Russia and Sweden. Historical reenactment (or re-enactment) is an educational or entertainment activity in which mainly amateur hobbyists and history enthusiasts dress in historic uniforms or costumes and follow a plan to recreate aspects of a historical event or period. Militaria
Militaria, also known as military memorabilia, are military equipment which are collected for their historical significance. Such items include firearms, swords, sabres, knives, bayonets, helmets and other equipment such as uniforms, military orders and decorations and insignia. The act of collecting militaria has roots in souvenir hunting, a practice first made popular among soldiers during World War I. During the war, soldiers would walk through battlefields and trenches, taking military equipment and personal items from enemy POW's or, in most cases, dead bodies. Soldiers would send these items home to loved ones through post or in their belongings upon going home. World War II reenactment is the historical reenactment of the various combatants involved in World War II. Types The types of events include living history, which emphasises the garrison life of the average serviceman or servicewoman, and tactical events, involving simulated combat operations. The hobby has expanded significantly since the 1970s and is now practiced around the world. Controversies Some reenactment includes Waffen-SS units, the paramilitary force of the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany. Although banned in Germany and Austria, SS reenacting groups exist elsewhere, including in Europe and North America. By the end of the 1990s there were 20 Waffen-SS reenactment groups in the United States. Within the UK, a number of events only allow the portrayal of Allied service personnel and ban the wearing of any German uniform featuring symbols of the Third Reich. Jon Phillips Armor Collection
The Jon Phillips Armour Collection is a private collection of armoured vehicles owned by Jon "Welderbeast" Phillips, a mobile welder and World War II vehicle hobbyist from Hoo, England. The collection includes a replica Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. A, a restored original Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. D, and a restored Volkswagen Schwimmwagen. Replicas Panzer III Ausf. A replica Jon Phillips initially converted an FV 432 armoured personnel carrier chassis combined with a FV101 Scorpion light armoured vehicle turret to produce a replica Panzer III Ausf. Amphibious Combat Vehicle
The Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) is a program initiated by Marine Corps Systems Command to procure an amphibious assault vehicle for the United States Marine Corps to supplement and ultimately replace the aging Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV). The program replaces the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) program canceled in 2011. Originally a plan to develop a high-water-speed vehicle, the program has expanded into a multi-phased approach to procure and develop several types of amphibious-capable vehicles to address near and long-term requirements.
