Wapello Community School District
The Wapello Community School District, or Wapello Community Schools, is a rural public school district headquartered in Wapello, Iowa. It is mostly within Louisa County, with a smaller area in Des Moines County, and serves the towns of Wapello and Oakville, and the surrounding rural areas. In 2015, the district entered an agreement with the Morning Sun Community School District to share the services of superintendent Mike Peterson. Wapello is a city in and the county seat of Louisa County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,084 at the time of the 2020 census. Wapello is part of the Muscatine Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Wapello was platted in the late 1830s. The city's namesake is Wapello, a Meskwaki chief. Geography Wapello is located on the west side of the Iowa River. US Route 61 passes through the community. Louisa County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,837. The county seat is Wapello. Louisa County is part of the Muscatine Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Louisa County was formed on December 7, 1836, as a part of Wisconsin Territory. Two theories have been offered for the origins of its name: one is that it was named after Louisa Massey, who was very well known in the area at the time because she avenged the murder of her brother when she shot the party responsible; the other is that it was named after Louisa County, Virginia. Louisa County became a part of Iowa Territory upon its formation on July 4, 1838. Zach Odle and Zach Grimm both hail from Wapello. The first courthouse was a simple wood-framed building. Southeast Iowa Superconference
The Southeast Iowa Superconference, also known as the SEISC, is a 18-team athletics and activities conference based in southeastern Iowa. The conference was created in 1991 from the merger of the Deerwood Conference and the Southeast Iowa Conference. It is made up of 1A, 2A and 3A high schools.
