Wangpo Tethong
Wangpo Tethong (born 16 April 1963, Trogen, Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden) is the owner and managing director of Tethong Kommunikation. He is a former party secretary of the Green Party Canton of Zurich, spokesperson of Greenpeace Switzerland and worked as a senior consultant for a Swiss consultancy company. He is also known as a Swiss–Tibetan activist, writer and member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament in Exile. Life and work Wangpo Tethong was born to Tibetan refugees at the Kinderdorf Pestalozzi in Trogen, Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. He studied history and law at the University of Zürich, where he graduated with the master's degree (phil. I) from the philosophical departement in 1997. Trogen, Switzerland
Trogen is a municipality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in Switzerland. The town is the seat of the canton's judicial authorities. History The first mentioning of Trogen was in 1168 (''Trugin''). The name Trogen refers to a number of fountains (''Trögen'') which is reflected in the coat of arms. In the 18th century the village was dominated by the local Zellweger family which enjoyed success with textile production and trade. The family established the grammar school (''Kantonsschule'') in 1821. Geography Trogen has an area, , of . Of this area, 50.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 41.1% is forested. Penpa Tsering
Penpa Tsering () (born 1967) is a Tibetan politician. He is the second democratically elected Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration. He succeeded the last Sikyong Lobsang Sangay on 27 May 2021. Penpa Tsering was the speaker of the Parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration (Tibetan Parliament in Exile) for two terms between 2008 and 2016. Early life Penpa Tsering was born in a refugee camp in Bylakuppe in the Indian state of Karnataka in 1967. After topping his schooling, he graduated with Honours degree in economics from Madras Christian College. Tibet Institute Rikon
The Tibet Institute Rikon is a Tibetan monastery located in Zell-Rikon im Tösstal in the Töss Valley in Switzerland. It was established as a non-profit foundation because Swiss laws resulting from the 19th century secularization movement did not allow for the establishment of new monasteries until 1973 History In 1961, Switzerland was one of the first countries in the West that allowed Tibetan refugees to settle in large numbers. Henri and Jacques Kuhn (owner of ''Metallwarenfabrik AG Heinrich Kuhn'', now '' Kuhn Rikon AG'') offered work and accommodations to a group of refugees.
