Wang Beixing
Wang Beixing (; born 10 March 1985) is a Chinese long track speed skater, specializing in short distances (500 m and 1000 m). Wang first competed in 2003. However, her breakthrough came in the 2004–05 season, winning several times in the World Cup B-group and competing in the A-group. At the World Single Distance Championships she surprisingly won silver. She appeared to be a medal candidate at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. However, here she disappointed with a 7th place at the 500 m and a 29th at the 1000 m. In January 2009, she won the World Sprint Championships, the first Chinese woman to do so since Ye Qiaobo in 1993. She won the bronze medal in the 500 m sprint at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. 2007 Asian Winter Games
The 6th Asian Winter Games () were held in Changchun, Jilin, China from January 28 to February 4, 2007. The Winter Games are a celebration of Winter sports in Asia. Utah Olympic Oval
The Utah Olympic Oval is an indoor speed skating oval located southwest of Salt Lake City, in Kearns, Utah. The Oval was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and it hosted the long track speed skating events for the 2002 games. Inside the facility the 400 meter skating track surrounds two international sized ice sheets, and is itself surrounded by a 442 meter running track. Kevin Overland
Kevin Overland, or Kevin Crockett (born June 8, 1974) is a Canadian former Olympic and ISU Speed Skating World Cup medallist and present-day Speed Skating Canada national sprint team coach. He won the Olympic bronze medal in the 500 metres event at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Crockett also set two world records during his career as a skater. Personal He is the brother of fellow Olympians Cindy Overland and Amanda Overland. His father Ernie is also a coach. Following his competitive career he changed his last name to honour his deceased grandfather and now goes by Kevin Crockett. Coaching Crockett has coached Olympic and World Championship medalists, including Wang Beixing of China. Speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, Richmond, British Columbia, between 13 and 27 February 2010. Notes Haralds Silovs became the first athlete in Olympic history to participate in both short track (1500 m) and long track (5000 m) speed skating, and the first to compete in two different disciplines on the same day. Ye Qiaobo
Ye Qiaobo (born June 3, 1964) is a Chinese speed skater. She was born in Changchun, Jilin. She competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics and in the 1994 Winter Olympics. In 1992, she won the silver medal in the 500 metres event as well as in the 1000 metres competition. Her silver in the 500m is the first ever medal for a Chinese athlete at the Winter Olympics. Two years later she won the bronze medal in the 1000 metres contest and finished 13th in the 500 metres event. Speed Skating World Cup
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup is a series of international speed skating competitions, organised annually by the International Skating Union since the winter of 1985–86. Every year during the winter season, a number of competitions on different distances and on different locations are held. Skaters can earn points at each competition, and the skater who has the most points on a given distance at the end of the series is the winner. Initially not very popular with skaters nor spectators, the World Cup has gradually become more and more popular, and this was due to the creation of the World Single Distance Championships.
