Wandoan Railway Line
The Wandoan Branch is a 70 km railway line in the Darling Downs region Queensland, Australia. It links the towns of Miles and Wandoan. It was approved to extend to Taroom, but construction halted during World War I and never recommenced. History The Western Line from Brisbane reached Miles in August 1878. Taroom, about 120 kilometres to the north of Miles, later became an established pastoral region and a line in that direction was proposed to promote closer settlement. Approval was given in 1910 for construction of the first section to Wandoan (then called Juandah) and the line opened from Miles as far as Giligulgul on 20 December 1913. Sidings enroute were Dalwogan (now Dalwogon), Kowguran and Gurulmundi. On 11 August 1913, during construction of the Miles-Taroom section, a ballast train collided with several cattle from Miles. Columboola
Columboola is a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Columboola had a population of 72 people. History The town takes its name from Columboola Creek, an Aboriginal word, meaning ''plenty of white cockatoos''. Columboola Provisional School opened on 20 July 1896 with 20 students. On 1 January 1909 it became Columboola State School. From 1942 through World War II the school was closed so it could be used in connection with the ammunition storage facility on Cameby Downs. The school building was relocated to Miles State School. On 23 October 1954 Columboola State School reopened with a new building. It closed permanently on 28 April 1978. Moura Railway Line
The Moura railway line is a railway in central Queensland, connecting several coal mines to the port of Gladstone. It connects the remnants of several lines that previously connected to Rockhampton, originally by a rack railway. History The Dawson Valley railway line was built from near Rockhampton, opening in 1898, and the Callide Valley railway line opened in 1917, both having a north–south alignment. In 1953, a spur line opened to serve the Callide Mine, and another to serve the Moura coal mine opened in 1963, both mines shipping coal to Gladstone via Rockhampton, a ~270 km distance. The Surat Basin Railway is a proposed freight railway in Queensland, Australia. It is planned to connect the Western railway line near Wandoan which is north west of Toowoomba with the Moura railway line, near Banana, west of Gladstone.
