Wanderlust is an Australian contemporary jazz band led by trumpeter Miroslav Bukovsky that formed in 1991. The original lineup comprised Miroslav Bukovsky, James Greening (trombone), Carl Orr (guitar), Alister Spence (piano, keyboards), Adam Armstrong (bass) and Fabian Hevia Fabian Hevia is an Australian jazz percussionist. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles. New Orleans jazz began in the early 1910s, combining earlier brass band marches, French quadrilles, biguine, ragtime and blues with collective polyphonic improvisation. Miroslav Bukovsky
Miroslav Bukovsky (born Czechoslovakia) is one of Australia's leading jazz trumpeters and composer/arrangers. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1994 Bukovsky won the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album with the album ''Wanderlust'' with the band Wanderlust. Miroslav has been on staff at the ANU School of Music since 1999. He is a former student American trumpeter Bill Adam. Biography Born in Czechoslovakia, Bukovsky grew up listening to jazz on illegal 'Voice of America' late-night broadcasts. Originally classically trained, he joined various big bands while still living in Czechoslovakia. When the Soviet army invaded his homeland in 1968, Bukovsky, who was then on tour, decided not to return. He migrated to Australia and soon found a place for himself in the Sydney jazz scene. Carl Grant Orr is an Australian jazz guitarist and composer. Orr earned a nomination for the 1992 ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album for ''Seeking Spirit'' (1991). Alister Spence
Alister Spence is an Australian jazz pianist and composer. Spence leads the Alister Spence Trio with Lloyd Swanton and Toby Hall. They were nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album in 2004 for ''Flux'' and in 2007 for ''Mercury''. Bands and artists he has recorded with include the Raymond MacDonald International Big Band, Clarion Fracture Zone, Wanderlust, Australian Art Orchestra, Andrew Robson, and Carl Orr.
