Walter Young (American Football)
Walter Lee Young, Jr. (born December 7, 1979) is an American football wide receiver who played for both the Carolina Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was originally a seventh-round pick (226th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Illinois by the Panthers. Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA, Young attended Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois, where he earned all-state honors as a quarterback. Originally a quarterback, Young switched to wide receiver as a redshirt sophomore at the University of Illinois in 2000. Starting seven games that year, Young finished the season with 27 receptions for 403 yards. As a junior, Young started 11 games and finished second on the team with 50 catches for 890 yards and eight touchdowns, while averaging a team-leading 17.8 yards per catch. Walter Young was a snowshoe racer and runner from Quebec, Canada. He won the 1937 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:33:20 during unseasonably hot conditions. Young defeated the second place runner, John A. Kelley, by over six minutes. Young later worked as a firefighter. Walter Earnest Young, Jr. (February 18, 1980 – September 19, 2015) was an American professional baseball player. He played part of one season in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles in 2005 as a first baseman and designated hitter. He was known for his large size and his ability to hit towering home runs. Young was listed at and . , his weight was the highest ever recorded by an active Major League Baseball player. Baseball career Young was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He played high school football at Purvis High School in Purvis, Mississippi. Walter James Young
Sir Walter James Young KBE (2 April 1872 – 5 January 1940) was an Australian businessman. Walter James Young was the son of John Young, a pastoralist, and was born at Moonta, South Australia. He was educated at Whinham College and obtained a position with Elder Smith and Company at Adelaide in 1897. His energy and ability soon marked him out for promotion and 25 years later, at the early age of 40, he became general manager of the company. In 1929 he was appointed managing-director. Though well known in business circles Young did not come into public notice until the 1914–18 war, when he was a member of the Commonwealth shipping board, and vice-chairman of the Commonwealth central wool committee. In 1917 he went on a special mission to the United States for the British government. Walter Roland Young (September 14, 1916 – January 9, 1945) was a professional football player who later served in World War II. Football career Young was the first consensus All-American football player out of the University of Oklahoma. He led the team to its first Big Six Conference championship as well as its first bowl berth ever, the 1939 Orange Bowl. He also starred as a heavyweight wrestler for the Sooners. After college, he played professionally for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the National Football League, where he played in the league's first televised game. He was drafted in the third round of the 1939 NFL Draft. Military career In 1941, he voluntarily gave up his NFL career to join the United States Army Air Corps, and received his wings in August. Walter Young (minister)
Walter Young FRSE (1745 – 6 August 1814) was an 18th/19th century Scottish minister of the Church of Scotland remembered primarily as a musician and collector of Scottish songs. He was an influence on Robert Burns. He made especial study of "luinigs" of the Western Isles: short, repetitive songs used for work tasks in the home. Life He was born in Haddington in East Lothian in 1745, the son of David Young, rector of the local grammar school. His youngest sister Anne was a music teacher, who invented board games to help children learn music. He was licensed to preach by the Church of Scotland in 1769 and ordained at Haddington. In 1771 he became minister of Erskine Parish Church. He was a friend of John Ramsay of Ochtertyre and Rev Patrick MacDonald of Kilmore, and worked on song collecting together.
