Walter Ross (politician)
Walter Ross (1817 – November 12, 1888) was a Canadian businessman and political figure who represented Prince Edward in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1867 to 1878. Ross was born in Ross-shire, Scotland in 1817 and was educated in Scotland. He operated a general store in Picton and also served four years as mayor of Picton. He served as lieutenant-colonel in the local militia from 1863 to 1883. Ross owned a steamship that operated on the Great Lakes and was a director of the Prince Edward County Railway. He was elected in 1863 to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada The Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada was the lower house of the legislature for the Province of Canada, which consisted of the former provinces of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East and later the province of Quebec, and Upper C ... representing Prince Edward and was reelected after Canadian Confederation. Walter Ross (boxer)
Walter Ross (born 3 July 1898) was a Scottish boxer who was British bantamweight champion in 1919 and fought for the European title the same year. Career Born in Glasgow, but based during much of his professional career in Hoxton, London, Ross made his professional debut in March 1915 with a points win over Joe Clark at flyweight. He won six of his first ten fights and in August 1916 faced Sid Shields for the vacant Scottish flyweight title, winning on points over 20 rounds. In March 1917 he fought a draw with Louis Ruddick at the Holborn Stadium. In November he beat Johnny Hughes over 20 rounds, and followed that in January 1918 with a win over Digger Stanley. He beat Stanley again in April, his opponent being disqualified in the sixth round, but lost to Tommy Noble on points in October. Walter John Macdonald Ross
Walter John Macdonald Ross , (1914–1982) was a British Army officer who served as Lord Lieutenant of Kirkcudbright from 1977 to 1982. Personal life Ross was son of Major Robert Ross (1877–1935), deputy assistant provost marshal for the West Scotland area and owner of the Ledgowan estate at Achnasheen, Ross-shire. He was educated at Loretto School, where he was a Cadet Under-Officer in the Officers' Training Corps. Ross married Josephine May Cross, and had two sons and a daughter; the elder, Lt-Col Malcolm Ross (1943–2019), was a member of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom and, from 2006, of the household of Charles, Prince of Wales, and the younger, Robert Ross, was Keeper of the Records of the Duchy of Cornwall until retiring in 2013. Stubb Ross
Walter R. "Stubb" Ross, CM started the now-defunct airline Time Air near Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1966. He married his wife Margaret in 1953 and they had four children, Marjory, Lynn, Rod and Susan. In 1967—the year after Ross started Lethbridge Air Service — Air Canada stopped service to the Lethbridge airport. As a result, his company was able to provide the service the larger company previously provided. He also oversaw the acquisitions of regional airlines North Canada Air and Southern Frontier Airlines. Ross worked in different capacities at the company — including selling tickets, loading cargo and piloting the planes — but was serving as chairman of the board when he retired in 1984. He died September 14, 1987. Ross also served in several executive positions with the Air Transport Association of Canada, including two stints as chairman. Walter Ross-Taylor
Walter Ross-Taylor (7 July 1877 – 12 July 1958) was a Scottish Conservative Party politician and civil servant. Life He was born in the manse at Thurso the son of the Rev Walter Ross Taylor (1838-1907), a prominent Free Church of Scotland minister and in turn son of the Very Rev Dr Walter Ross Taylor who served as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1884, and his first wife, Margaret Paterson. He was educated at Leys School in Cambridge, and at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, where he studied law. He was called to the Scottish bar in 1902. He entered the Egyptian civil service in 1905 and held several judicial and administrative positions. He served as counsel to the Sultan and adviser to the Ministries of Public Works, War, and Agriculture.
