Walter Phillips Gallery
The Walter Phillips Gallery (WPG) is a contemporary art gallery in Banff, Alberta. It was established in 1976 as a part of The Banff Centre in Banff National Park. History and mission Walter J. Phillips was a printmaker and painter, from the 1930s to the 1950s, who played a seminal role in the development of the visual arts program in The Banff School of Fine Arts. The Walter Phillips Gallery was formally established at Banff Centre on August 3, 1976 with the mandate to collect and exhibit Canadian and International contemporary art. After its conception, it quickly evolved into a small but dynamic gallery and became known for a contemporary art program that championed curatorial innovation with a commitment to emerging forms of art including video and performance. Banff, Alberta
Banff is a town within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. It is located in Alberta's Rockies along the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately west of Calgary and east of Lake Louise. Duane Linklater
Duane Linklater (born 1976) is an artist of Omaskêko Cree ancestry. Biography Born in Moose Factory, Ontario, Canada, Linklater now lives in North Bay. He is married to artist-choreographer, Tanya Lukin Linklater. Linklater attended the University of Alberta from 2000-2005 and was awarded a Bachelor of Native Studies and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He also studied at Bard College's Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts from 2010 and completed a Master of Fine Arts in video and film in 2012. Stuart Bailey
Stuart Bertolotti-Bailey (previously Stuart Bailey; born 1973) is a British graphic designer, writer and editor. In 2000 he co-founded the bi-annual arts journal ''Dot Dot Dot'' with Peter Bil'ak. In 2006 he began working with American graphic designer, writer and editor David Reinfurt under the pseudonym Dexter Sinister, which is also the name of their 'just-in-time workshop and occasional bookstore' on New York's Lower East Side. Frances Stark
Frances Stark (born 1967) is an interdisciplinary artist and writer, whose work centers on the use and meaning of language, and the translation of this process into the creative act. She often works with carbon paper to hand-trace letters, words, and sentences from classic works by Emily Dickinson, Goethe, Henry Miller, Samuel Beckett, and others to explore the voices and interior states of writers. Dramaturgy
Dramaturgy is the study of dramatic composition and the Representation (arts), representation of the main elements of drama on the stage. The term first appears in the eponymous work ''Hamburg Dramaturgy'' (1767–69) by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. Lessing composed this collection of essays on the principles of drama while working as the world's first dramaturge at the Hamburg National Theatre. Janice Kerbel
Janice Kerbel (born 1969) is a British artist. Biography Kerbel graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1996. In 2011 she won the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for artists. Turner Prize
The Turner Prize, named after the English painter J. M. W. Turner, is an annual prize presented to a British visual artist. Between 1991 and 2016, only artists under the age of 50 were eligible (this restriction was removed for the 2017 award). The prize is awarded at Tate Britain every other year, with various venues outside of London being used in alternate years. Since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the UK's most publicised art award. The award represents all media. As of 2004, the monetary award was established at £40,000. There have been different sponsors, including Channel 4 television and Gordon's Gin. Mark Leckey
Mark Leckey (born 1964) is a British contemporary artist. His found object art and video pieces, which incorporate themes of nostalgia and anxiety, and draw on elements of pop culture, span several works and exhibitions. In particular, he is known for '' Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore'' (1999) and ''Industrial Light and Magic'' (2008), for which he won the 2008 Turner Prize.
