Frank Stanfield
Frank Stanfield (April 24, 1872 – September 25, 1931) was an entrepreneur in Nova Scotia, Canada, who was the 15th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia (1930–31) and represented Colchester County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly (1911–20 and 1925–30). He was the father of the politicians Robert Lorne Stanfield and Frank Thomas Stanfield. Early life He was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, the son of Charles E. Stanfield, who established the Stanfield Mills in Truro, and Lydia Dawson. In 1896, with his brother John Stanfield, he took over the operation of the business, which was incorporated as Stanfield's Limited in 1906. Its "unshrinkable" underwear, developed in 1898, became popular with gold prospectors in the Yukon. The company expanded to be one of the largest producers of woollen goods in Canada. Frank Manning Covert
Frank Manning Covert, (January 13, 1908 – November 1, 1987) was a Canadian lawyer. Born in Canning, Kings County, Nova Scotia, the son of Dr. A.M. Covert and Minnie A. (Clarke) Covert, he graduated from Dalhousie University in 1929 at the top of his class. He joined the law firm of Stewart McKeen in 1930 where he mentored under James McGregor Stewart and became a partner in 1936. It later became Stewart McKelvey, the largest law firm in Atlantic Canada. From 1940 to 1942, he served with the Department of Munitions and Supply and was a protégé of the C.D. Howe. He enlisted in the RCAF in September 1942. On May 10, 1945, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. A well known corporate director, he served on more than 50 corporate boards, including the Royal Bank of Canada. Robert Irwin (Canadian Politician)
Robert Irwin (December 17, 1865 – May 16, 1941) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada, and father of Robert Grandy and Prescott St. Clair. He represented Shelburne County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1906 to 1925 as a Liberal member. Irwin was the 17th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1937 to 1940. Life and career He was born in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, the son of Robert Gore Irwin and Isabel Archer, and was educated there. Irwin worked for fifteen years as a travelling salesman before establishing a lumber and dry goods business at Shelburne. In 1894, he married Mary Prescott McGill. Irwin was speaker for the provincial assembly from 1917 to 1925. He died in Shelburne.
