Walter F. Boone
Walter Fredrick Boone (February 14, 1898 – March 19, 1995) was an admiral in the United States Navy. Born in Berkeley, California, Boone joined the Navy in 1917. Participating in World War II, Boone was awarded the Silver Star in 1942 for actions during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. He was later Commander in Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean from 1956–1958 and U.S. Military Representative, NATO Military Committee from 1958–1960. Berkeley, California
Berkeley ( ) is a city on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay in northern Alameda County, California, United States. It is named after the 18th-century Irish bishop and philosopher George Berkeley. It borders the cities of Oakland and Emeryville to the south and the city of Albany and the unincorporated community of Kensington to the north. Its eastern border with Contra Costa County generally follows the ridge of the Berkeley Hills. The 2020 census recorded a population of 124,321. The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Military Committee (NATO MC) is the body of NATO that is composed of member states' Chiefs of Defence (CHOD). The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is an undergraduate college in Annapolis, Maryland with the mission of educating and commissioning officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Academy was founded in 1845 and graduated its first class in 1846. The Academy is often referred to as Annapolis, while sports media refer to the Academy as "Navy" and the students as "Midshipmen"; this usage is officially endorsed.
