Walter A. Elwell
Walter Alexander Elwell (born April 29, 1937) is an evangelical theological academic. He is most noted for his editorial output numbering several evangelical standard reference works. He taught at Wheaton College, Illinois from 1975 to 2003 before retirement and is now professor emeritus of Bible and Theology at Wheaton College. Elwell was educated at Wheaton College where he earned his B.A. and M.A. He was awarded his Ph.D. in 1970 from the University of Edinburgh after spending time at then attended the University of Chicago and University of Tübingen. He consulted for both the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association and the Evangelical Book Club. Wheaton College (Illinois)
Wheaton College is a Private college, private Evangelical, Evangelical Christian Liberal arts colleges in the United States, liberal arts college in Wheaton, Illinois. It was founded by evangelical abolitionists in 1860. Wheaton College was a stop on the Underground Railroad and graduated one of Illinois' first black college graduates. History Wheaton College was founded in 1860. Its predecessor, the Illinois Institute, had been founded in late 1853 by Wesleyan Methodist Church (United States), Wesleyan Methodists as a college and preparatory school. Wheaton's first president, Jonathan Blanchard (Wheaton), Jonathan Blanchard, was a former president of Knox College (Illinois), Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and a staunch abolitionist with ties to Oberlin College. Christianbook, LLC, formerly known as Christian Book Distributors (CBD), is a Christian catalog and internet retailer. Christian Book Distributors was started in 1978 by Stephen Hendrickson, 19 years old and a sophomore at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, out of his parents’ home in Lynn, Massachusetts. Stephen Hendrickson incorporated the business, first as a nonprofit, and subsequently as a for profit corporation on September 10, 1981. In 1984 the company built a facility in the Centennial Industrial Park in Peabody. By 1996 CBD had completely outgrown the site and built a new facility across the street, where it remains today. The facility is now . In 2012, CBD was described as employing a staff of just over 500 while " ontinuingto be a family affair", with its younger co-founder, his 80-year-old mother and his 23-year-old son "still involved with the company".
