Walt Elliot
Robert Walter Elliot (October 17, 1933 – June 4, 2020) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1990. He represented the riding of Halton North. Background Elliot was educated at Kitchener-Waterloo College, Brock University and McMaster University, receiving a Master of Education degree. He worked as a high-school math teacher and principal before entering political life, and was a Freemason. Politics He first ran for the Ontario legislature in the 1977 provincial election, but lost to Progressive Conservative incumbent James Snow by about 6,500 votes in the constituency of Oakville. He ran again in the 1981 election, and lost to Snow by an even greater margin. Noel Duignan
Noel Duignan (born December 20, 1948) is former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 1995. Background Before running for office, Duignan was an executive assistant to federal New Democratic Party MPs Derek Blackburn and Lyle Kristiansen. He is a recipient of the Canada Medal. Ted Chudleigh (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 2014, representing the ridings of Halton North and later Halton. Chudleigh is the grandson of Thomas Laird Kennedy, who served as Premier of Ontario in 1949. Background Chudleigh was born in Peel County, Ontario in 1943. 1995 Ontario General Election
The 1995 Ontario general election was held on June 8, 1995, to elect members of the 36th Legislative Assembly of the province of Ontario, Canada. The writs for the election were dropped on April 28, 1995. The governing New Democratic Party, led by Premier Bob Rae, was defeated by voters, who were angry with the actions of the Rae government, such as its unpopular hiring quotas and the Social Contract legislation in 1993. These policies caused the NDP to lose much of its base in organized labour, further reducing support for the party. At the 1993 federal election, the NDP tumbled to less than seven percent support, and lost all 11 of its federal seats in Ontario. David Peterson
David Robert Peterson (born December 28, 1943) is a Canadian lawyer and former politician who served as the 20th premier of Ontario from 1985 to 1990. He was the first Liberal officeholder in 42 years, ending the so-called Tory dynasty. Background Peterson was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Clarence Marwin Peterson (1913–2009) and Laura Marie Scott (1913–2015), and has two siblings, former MPP Tim Peterson and former MP Jim Peterson. 1987 Ontario General Election
The 1987 Ontario general election was held on September 10, 1987, to elect members of the 34th Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The governing Ontario Liberal Party, led by Premier David Peterson, was returned to power with their first majority government in half a century, and the second-largest majority government in the province's history. Peterson had successfully managed to govern with a minority in the Legislature by obtaining the co-operation of the Ontario New Democratic Party, led by Bob Rae, in a confidence and supply agreement. It was through the NDP's support that Peterson was able to form a government, even though the Progressive Conservative Party had won a slightly larger number of seats in the previous election.
