Walsall Borough Police
Walsall Borough Police was a police force in the Borough of Walsall, then in Staffordshire, in England, from 1832–1966. History The force was created on 6 July 1832 with one superintendent and three constables. Following the Municipal Corporation Act of 1835, the force came under the control of Walsall Corporation, via a watch committee. From 1857, the force had a superintendent, four sergeants and 19 Constables. Two plainclothes detectives were appointed in 1858. At the start of the 20th century the force had 78 men. The first two women constables were appointed in 1918. West Midlands Constabulary
The West Midlands Constabulary was a police force in the West Midlands of England. It was created on 1 April 1966 under the Police Act 1964, with the re-organisation of the Black Country area as the five contiguous county boroughs of Dudley, Walsall, Warley, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton. Dudley Borough Police, Walsall Borough Police and Wolverhampton Borough Police were incorporated wholly into the new force. It also took in parts of the Staffordshire Constabulary and Worcestershire Constabulary. The force was initially headed by Chief Constable Norman W. Dudley Borough Police
Dudley Borough Police was a police force in the Borough of Dudley, then an exclave of Worcestershire, in England, from 1920–1966. History From 1839 until 1920, Dudley was policed by the Dudley Division of the Worcestershire Constabulary. Unusually, while the Worcestershire Standing Joint Committee had control over the administration and discipline of Dudley's police, the Dudley's local watch committee was responsible for financial matters and recruitment. This caused many tensions. As a consequence, Dudley Borough Police was created, with effect from 1 April 1920. West Midlands Police
West Midlands Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the metropolitan county of West Midlands in England. The force covers an area of with 2.93million inhabitants, which includes the cities of Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and also the Black Country. In 2020, there were 6,846 officers, 484 police community support officers (PCSO), and 219 volunteer special constables. The force is currently led by Chief Constable Dave Thompson. The force area is divided into ten Local Policing Units (LPUs), each being served by four core policing teams – Response, Neighbourhood, Investigation and Community Action & Priority (CAPT) – with the support of a number of specialist crime teams. Worcestershire Constabulary
Worcestershire Constabulary was the territorial police force responsible for policing rural Worcestershire in central England from 1839 until 1967, when it became part of West Mercia Constabulary. History The Worcestershire Constabulary was formed in 1839, along with borough forces in the towns of Worcester, Evesham, Kidderminster, Dudley, Bewdley and Droitwich. The first headquarters was a three storey house at 15 Britannia Square, Worcester. In 1946 they moved into Hindlip Hall. In 1947 the Worcester Constabulary absorbed Kidderminster Borough Constabulary. On 1 October 1967 the Worcestershire Constabulary was amalgamated with the Shropshire Constabulary, Herefordshire Constabulary and Worcester City Police to form the West Mercia Constabulary, later the West Mercia Police. Staffordshire Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent in the West Midlands of England. It is made up of eleven Local Policing Teams, whose boundaries are matched to the nine local authorities within Staffordshire. History A combined force covering Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, called Staffordshire County and Stoke-on-Trent Constabulary, was established on 1 January 1968, as a merger of the Staffordshire County Police and Stoke-on-Trent City Police. This force lost areas to the new West Midlands Police in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and adopted a shorter name. Wolverhampton Borough Police
Wolverhampton Borough Police was a police service in the Borough of Wolverhampton from 1837–1966, when it was merged into the West Midlands Constabulary. The town's commissioners approved the formation of the police force on 3 August 1837. The original Superintendent was Richard Castle, who was appointed with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police, with a salary of five shillings and six pence per day. The force originally consisted of one sergeant and five police constables and was based in the old Town Hall, Garrick Street. By the early 1900s officer numbers had increased to 109 men. The first female officers were employed in 1937 and were immediately attached to the Criminal Investigation Department. Numbers were increased once more following World War II, with 215 men and 8 women being in post to meet the increased demand for policing. Walsall (, or ; locally ) is a market town and administrative centre in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands County, England.
