Wally Hughes
Walter Cyril Joseph Hughes (15 March 1934 – 21 January 2011) was an association football player and coach who managed the New Zealand national team. Playing career Hughes was born and raised in Liverpool and joined Liverpool, initially as ground staff, but later earned a playing contract. He failed to make an appearance for the first team, and moved to Stockport County where he again failed to make the first team squad. Hughes then joined Sheffield United, making just two appearances. He then had spells with Bradford Park Avenue A.F.C. and Southport F.C. He played as a right winger. Coaching career In 1973 Hughes emigrated to New Zealand and took up the role of head coach of Dunedin City in the Southern League. After two seasons he became Northern Regional coach and then in 1977 he was appointed coach of the New Zealand national football team, replacing Barrie Truman for the 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. New Zealand National Soccer League
The New Zealand National League is the name given to the current New Zealand top football competition. Originally set up as the New Zealand National Soccer League there has been many versions of the competition as well as many different names. The most common format saw club teams play each other, at least two times, on a home and away basis. At the completion of those games, the best-performing team was declared as the New Zealand champion. The latest version has the clubs play in their regional leagues with the top teams qualifying for the Championship phase to then play each other for the champion. Bradford (Park Avenue) A
Bradford is a city status in the United Kingdom, city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Manurewa AFC
Manurewa AFC is an amateur Association football, football (soccer) club in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. They will compete in Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 with newly appointed head coach Marty Rodwell History Manurewa AFC was formed by the merger of Tramways (1929 Chatham Cup winner) and another club named Manurewa. The merged entity initially used the portmanteau name of Tramurewa, during which time the club won the 1931 Chatham Cup. Tramuwera reverted to the name of Manurewa in 1959, the name currently used by the club. Manurewa competed in the New Zealand National Soccer League from 1979 to 1992, finishing as champions in 1983 New Zealand National Soccer League, 1983.
