Wallsend FC
Wallsend Football Club is a football club in Australia. They play in the Northern NSW State League Division 1 which is the second tier of competition in Northern NSW Football. They are the oldest football club in Newcastle. Club Colours The original club colours consisted of a red shirt with a white sash, white shorts and red and white socks. This strip was worn by the Wallsend Rovers, the original club name in 1887. The presence of red and white has been continuous, with evolving designs and styles always involving the use of these colours. Ground Wallsend Football Club is based at The Gardens Sporting Complex, which was formerly used by the Newcastle Breakers until their demise. The ground has been developed into a multi-use greyhound and sports venue, not merely a site for football. Newcastle Breakers FC are a defunct Australian football (soccer) club. Formed out of elements of the Newcastle Austral club, they participated in the National Soccer League from season 1991/1992, until their dissolution in 1999/2000. The club fared poorly on the field in its nine seasons in the national league, failing to reach the finals at every attempt. The club's demise led to the creation of Newcastle United FC (later known as Newcastle Jets). West Wallsend FC
West Wallsend FC is an association football club based in West Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia. The club is a member of Northern NSW Football in Australia. The club was formed in 1891 by Scottish miners and is the third oldest surviving football club in the Northern Federation, behind Wallsend Red Devils FC (1887) and Adamstown Rosebud FC (1889). History Founded by Scottish miners in 1891 as West Wallsend Athletic FC, they did not compete during the 1895 and 1896 season due to a miners' strike in the district. The club re-formed at the end of 1896 as the West Wallsend Bluebells FC. Highlights include the club being selected in 1902 to represent Newcastle against Sydney and winning 4–2. Reg Date (26 July 1921 – 11 August 1995) was an Australian soccer player who plied his trade after the Second World War. Date played for Wallsend Football Club and Canterbury-Bankstown. He represented Australia in five full international matches, captaining three times. Early life Date was born in Wallsend to Nancy and John "Mick" Date. His father was a fisherman at Lemon Tree Passage, where Date lived until the age of eight, when he moved to live in Wallsend with his mother's parents. Club career Date went to Plattsburg Public School in Wallsend, being a prolific goalscorer in their youth matches. He made his debut for Wallsend Football Club in 1938 as a 16-year-old.
