Augustus Walley
Augustus Walley (March 10, 1856 – April 9, 1938) was a Buffalo Soldier in the United States Army and a recipient of America's highest military decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in the Indian Wars of the western United States. Biography Walley was born into slavery in Reisterstown, Maryland in 1856. He joined the army from Baltimore in November 1878.Register of Enlistments in the US Army, 1798-1914 On August 16, 1881, Walley was serving as a private in Company I of the 9th Cavalry Regiment. On that day, Walley participated in the Battle of Cuchillo Negro Creek in the Black Range Mountains near Cuchillo Negro Creek of New Mexico, where he was cited for " avery in action with hostile Apaches" for helping rescue stranded soldiers under heavy fire. His Lieutenant, George Ritter Burnett, and First Sergeant Moses Williams also received the Medal of Honor for their actions in this battle. Richard Walley
Richard Barry Walley (born 1953) OAM is a Nyungar man, one of Australia's leading Aboriginal performers, musicians and writers, who has been a campaigner for the Indigenous cause. Walley is also a visual artist. Life and career Walley, born in 1953 in Meekatharra, north of Perth, Western Australia, spent much of his childhood at Pinjarra, south of Perth. He began his work in social justice for Indigenous Australians in the Perth region, Nyungar country, at a young age. By 23 he was chairing Western Australia's Aboriginal Advisory Board, while also involved in the formation or operation of the Aboriginal Housing Board, Aboriginal Medical Service, Aboriginal Legal Service, Aboriginal Alcoholism Committee, Aboriginal Sports Foundation and the New Era Aboriginal Fellowship.
