Wallace Commercial Historic District is a national Historic district (United States), historic district located at Wallace, North Carolina, Wallace, Duplin County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 55 contributing buildings in the central business district of Wallace. It primarily includes commercial buildings with notable examples of Queen Anne style architecture, Queen Anne and Streamline Moderne, Moderne style architecture. Notable buildings include the (former) Wallace Post Office (1940-1941), (former) Farmers Bank & Trust Company (1922), White House Cafe, Wallace Depot and Freight Warehouse, Oscar Rivenbark Wholesale Building (c. 1945), Johnson Cotton Company Building and adjacent Warehouse (c. 1945), Blanchard Pontiac dealership (c. 1945), and the former Robert Carr Gulf Station (c. 1936). Wallace, North Carolina
Wallace is a town in Duplin and Pender counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 3,880 at the 2010 census. The Pender County portion of Wallace is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The W. Stokes Boney House, Isaac M. Powers House, and Wallace Commercial Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Wallace is located in southern Duplin County at (34.737248, -77.994627). The town limits extend south into Pender County. U.S. Route 117 passes through the center of town, leading north to Warsaw and south to Burgaw. North Carolina Highway 41 crosses US 117 in the center of Wallace, and leads northeast to Chinquapin and west to Harrells. Streamline Moderne is an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s. Inspired by aerodynamic design, it emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements.
