Walking The Streets In The Rain
Ireland was represented by Butch Moore, with the song "Walking the Streets in the Rain", at the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 20 March in Naples. This was the first time Ireland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Before Eurovision National final The final was held at the studios of broadcaster RTÉ in Dublin, hosted by Bunny Carr. Twelve songs took part, with the winner chosen by voting from twelve regional juries. Other participants included future Irish representative Dickie Rock (1966). Butch Moore
James Augustine "Butch" Moore (10 January 1938 – 3 April 2001) was an Irish singer and a showband icon during the 1960s. Moore was born in Dublin, Ireland. He achieved celebrity status as Ireland's first contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and attracted huge crowds with The Capitol Showband in the State's many ballrooms. Moore was at the height of his success, when he won the National Song Contest to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965, in Naples, singing Walking the Streets in the Rain. The song reached number one on the Irish Singles Chart, but failed to chart in the UK. Butch Moore married Norah Sheridan (born June 1940) in 1962. They had 3 three children; Karen, Grainne and Gary. The Eurovision Song Contest 1965 was the tenth edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Naples, Italy, following the country's victory at the with the song "Non ho l'età" by Gigliola Cinquetti. Bernard "Bunny" Carr (31 July 1927 – 19 September 2018) was an Irish television presenter. He presented shows such as '' Quicksilver'', ''Teen Talk'' and ''Going Strong'' on RTÉ. Dickie Rock
Richard "Dickie" Rock (born 10 October 1936) is an Irish singer. He experienced much success on the Irish charts during the 1960s, but has continued on as a popular live act as well as occasionally hitting the charts ever since. Early fame Rock was born in the North Strand, Dublin and raised in Cabra on Dublin's Northside. Between 1963 and 1972, he was one of the frontmen of the Miami Showband (who were later in the headlines due to the Miami Showband killings incident). He had 13 top ten hits with the Miami Showband, including seven number ones. Dickie Rock and the Miami Showband were the first Irish artists to go straight into the number one spot with "Every Step of the Way" in 1965. Patricia Cahill (singer)
Patricia Cahill (3 March 1942 – 11 May 2022) was an Irish singer. Her first appearance in public was in Dublin's Theatre Royal at the age of seventeen. Career Cahill's first commercial recording, ''Ireland's Patricia Cahill sings for you'', was recorded in Dublin and was later reissued in the United States under the title ''Danny Boy''. In the late 1960s and early 1970s she appeared often on Irish television, many times with the stage star Maureen Potter. Jim Doherty (musician)
Jim Doherty (born 1939) is an Irish composer and jazz pianist. He is a member of Aosdána, an elite association of Irish artists. Early life Jim Doherty was born in 1939; he was a son of Michael Kevin O'Doherty and Patricia (née Roche); and grandson of the Irish republican couple Katherine O'Doherty (1881–1969) and Séamus O'Doherty (1882–1945). The family lived in Sandymount, Dublin. Career Doherty has been performing since the late 1950s, leading jazz trios, quartets and bands. One of his earliest roles was with the Chris Lamb & The Universals showband. He went to London in 1960 to study composition and orchestration. Brendan Bowyer
Brendan Bowyer (12 October 1938 – 28 May 2020) was an Irish singer best known for fronting the Royal Showband and The Big Eight, and who had five number one hits in Ireland. He was also renowned for having The Beatles open for the Royal Showband at a concert on 2 April 1962 at the Pavilion Theatre, Liverpool, England, some six months before the release of The Beatles first single "Love Me Do", in October 1962. Bowyer was regarded as one of the first headlining Elvis impersonators. Elvis Presley himself was a big fan of Bowyer's performances and would often attend Bowyer's concerts in the Stardust Resort & Casino, Las Vegas during the 1970s.
