''Walk on Water'' is the ninth studio album (their tenth and final overall) by the British band Katrina and the Waves, released in 1997 (see 1997 in music). The album includes the lead single " Love Shine a Light", the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest 1997. It also became the band's highest charting UK single, reaching number 3. However, it was not released in the United States as a single. The track "Eejay" contains a sample of the 1962 song " Something's Got a Hold on Me" by American singer Etta James, who is credited as a co-writer along with the song's other two writers. Katrina And The Waves
Katrina and the Waves were a British rock band widely known for the 1985 hit " Walking on Sunshine". They also won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Love Shine a Light". History Pre-history (1975–1980) The band's earliest incarnation was as the Waves, a group that played in and around Cambridge, from 1975 to 1977. The Waves featured guitarist Kimberley Rew and drummer Alex Cooper. This incarnation of the Waves never issued any recordings, and broke up when Rew left to join the Soft Boys. A more direct ancestor of Katrina and the Waves was the band Mama's Cookin', a pop cover band from Feltwell. This band, founded in 1978, featured American Katrina Leskanich on vocals and keyboards, and fellow American, Vince de la Cruz on vocals and lead guitar. The Town House (also known as Townhouse Studios) was a recording studio located at 150 Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush in London, built in 1978 under the direction of Richard Branson for Virgin Records. Angel Recording Studios Limited (also referred to as Angel Studios) was a British recording studio based in the eponymous recording and mixing complex in Islington, London. Simon Fowler (born Simon R. Fowler in 1954) is an English photographer/director, known for his work with many singers and bands. Early life and career Fowler was born in Hastings. After completing an Art Foundation course at High Wycombe College of Art and Technology he then studied photography at Amersham College of Art and Technology. In 1974 he got his first job as a darkroom assistant at London Features International a photographic syndication agency founded in 1971 by businessman John Halsall and photographer Mike Putland. Putland left LFI in 1976 to start the RETNA. agency. At around the same time Fowler left working out of his own B/W portrait studio in Henley-on-Thames. Donald Smith Airey (born 21 June 1948) is an English musician who has been the keyboardist in the rock band Deep Purple since 2002, after the retirement of Jon Lord. ''Walking on Sunshine'' is the debut studio album by English new wave band Katrina and the Waves, released on December 1, 1983, by Attic Records. The album was only officially released in Canada, but now appears worldwide on the 2003 compilation '' The Original Recordings 1983-1984''. The band initially released the album themselves, before it was even titled, intending to sell it at gigs. Several of these original 1983 vinyl releases are evidently still in circulation, primarily in the band's native UK, with the record being simply titled ''Katrina and the Waves'' (recognizable by the black and white cover, and not to be confused with the band's self-titled 1985 album, which contains revamped tracks from this and the following album, ''Katrina and the Waves 2''). Going Down To Liverpool
"Going Down to Liverpool" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for his group Katrina and the Waves, although best remembered for a cover done by the Bangles. Background The song was first released on the band's 1982 EP ''Shock Horror!'' (with the band then simply named The Waves) and also included on their 1983 debut album '' Walking on Sunshine'', which was only released in Canada. The version included on both releases featured Rew on lead vocals. When the band signed with major label Capitol Records, the song was re-recorded with Katrina Leskanich on lead vocals and included on their 1985 self-titled album.
