Walferdange
Walferdange ( lb, Walfer ; german: Walferdingen) is a commune and small town in central Luxembourg. Geography The commune of Walferdange is located north of Luxembourg City in the valley of the Alzette. It is part of the canton Luxembourg. The town of Walferdange lies in the center of the commune, other towns within the commune include Helmsange and Bereldange. History The commune of Walferdange was formed on 1 January 1851, when it was detached from the commune of Steinsel. The law forming Walferdange was passed on 25 November 1850. Although the commune first came into existence in 1851, there is evidence of prehistoric settlement as well as remains of a very large Roman villa. The Raschpëtzer Qanat, an underground aqueduct near Helmsange was built in the 1st century AD during the Roman occupation. It is said to be the longest qanat north of the Alps. Walferdange Castle (french: Château de Walferdange), located in the small town of Walferdange in central Luxembourg, dates from 1824, when William I of the Netherlands, who was also Grand Duke of Luxembourg, built it as a stud farm. BBC Résidence
Basket-Ball Club Résidence or simply Résidence or Résidence Walferdange is a professional basketball club from the commune of Walferdange. History Résidence was founded in 1965. Later the same year began the inauguration of the Prince Henry Stadium, the club's homecourt. On March 2, 1967 was allowed to BBC Résidence, the admission of the association with the FLBB. In 1971–72 season the men's team won its first title in the third division and in 1977-78 season finished fourth in the national division. In 1980 the club celebrated its 15th anniversary. The organizing committee of the event created the supporter club "Go Basket" under the chairmanship of Maisy Meintz and under the Vice Presidency of Mulles Feidt. Raschpëtzer Qanat
The Raschpëtzer Qanat is located NE of Helmsange in the commune of Walferdange, 10 km north of the City of Luxembourg. A qanat is an underground water management system consisting of vertical shafts connecting to a sloping tunnel designed to provide a supply of fresh water. The Raschpëtzer is a particularly well preserved example of a qanat and is probably the most extensive system of its kind north of the Alps.
