Leon Walerian Ostroróg (1867 in Paris – 1932 in London), was an Islamic scholar, jurist, adviser to the Ottoman government and émigré in Istanbul. He was also a writer and translator. Early life Ostroróg was the third son of Count Stanisław Julian Ostroróg, a British and France-based Polish emigrant of noble descent and his wife, Teodozja Waleria Gwozdecka. The family travelled frequently between the UK, France and Poland. The father was a noted Victorian photographer, who after working in Marseilles and Paris, eventually settled in London. Meanwhile, Ostroróg underwent schooling in France and attended the Sorbonne where he completed a doctorate, later specialising in Islamic Law. Jerzy Walerian Braun
Jerzy Walerian Braun (13 April 1911 – 8 March 1968) was a Polish rower who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Braun was born in Bromberg in Western Prussia in 1911; the town was renamed Bydgoszcz when it became part of Poland. He won the silver medal as member of the Polish boat in the coxed pairs competition as well as the bronze medal as member of the Polish boat in the coxed fours competition. Four years later he was part of the Polish boat which was eliminated in the repechage of the coxed pair event. During World War II he fought in the Polish Armed Forces in the West as an officer in the Second Polish Army Corps. Walerian Przeniczka (8 September 1923 – 28 April 2015) was a Polish patriot, survivor of Soviet deportation to Siberia, soldier in the Polish Armed Forces commanded by General Władysław Anders, co-founder of the Polish Centre in Leamington Spa. Childhood Walerian Waclaw Przeniczka was one of three children of Jan Przeniczka and Maria Przeniczka, née Furman. He had two sisters, Pelagia and Sabina. In 1931, his father, a tax inspector, was transferred to Szczuczyn Nowogrodzki, in what is now the Belarus Republic, and the whole family moved there. His mother died in 1934. In Szczuczyn Przeniczka attended grammar school, planning to return to his home province and continue his studies at the Military Cadet School in Rawicz. The outbreak of war put an end to these plans. After the Soviet invasion of eastern Poland, his father was immediately arrested by Soviet NKVD Internal Security Forces and deported to Arkhangelsk.
